The guys are up on the Chippewa Flowage, they called in this morning to check in, and mentioned that they are having a “problem” with the GPS. If I can state this right, they get the big pictuer of the lake with the trail on it, but if they zoom in to get better detail of their location, it shows their trail and the little islands, and such, but the image only stays for a few seconds, then reverts back to the big map. And on the flowage, that’s a big area. and these two old fools don’t have the best eyes on them anymore, so they want to keep the more detailed map on the screen. Any tip on how to do this, or is the split screen the only way?
    Thanks,

They have that part right. James H was online with me until 1 am one night getting the map to come up. My question is, once they have the detail of the complete flowage, they want to zoom in to the area from the resort to the spot they fished last night. when following the trail, it reverts back to the big picture of the complete flowage, not just the part that they have traveled. An example: You are on the Mississippi, you put in at Red Wing, and travel to Winona, laying a trail as you go, fishing a bay here and there, when you want to go back, you would like to see a shorter section near alma, you can zoom in to see a one mile section, but it reverts back to the entire view from Red Wing to Winona after a couple seconds. Is there a way to keep just the small section on the screen?

Sounds like they have the Auto-Zoom on? In auto-zoom, your cursor will always be in the center of the screen and when you toggle to another area on the map, it will bring you right back to where you are currently sitting on the lake.

Does this sound like the problem?

Hit menu, toggle down to “auto zoom” if the black box is checked, push the enter button to deselect it.

It should stay zoomed in to were you put it.
I have a 3500c and it does not change screens till I tell it to.

Ron, are you running in auto zoom?

OK I am back from the garage, NO I am not.

That feature would do what sounds like their trouble is as it tries to keep their go-to(destination) in view on the map. But if they are not running to a waypoint would it still do that?

thanks for the suggestion. I remember seeing the auto zoom on the map data page, just can’t remember if it was checked. But then again, who knows what these two have done lateley.
The first day, they called from the bridge ( about 2 miles past their destination) and asked what the name of the resort was…..they knew it was musky something…….one thought it was tiger musky, the other thought it was musky tale………well, it was the Big Musky. I told them to look at the map I had printed out This is why I let them go alone. It’s always an adventure with those two.

Anyway, I passed on the suggestion via cell phone woicemail, hopefully they will get a signal somewhere and get the message.
    Thanks again.
