I’m looking at purchasing a new rig that’s just a bit too long for the garage… no swing-away tongue on the trailer. I’ve heard some have built a “doghouse” to fit the motor in and allow tongue clearance for the trailer. Anyone care to share any experiences with this?

Why don’t you look at putting a swing tongue on the trailer.

I looked into it but hit some dead ends… it’s a Ranger boat and trailer w/ a pull-out tongue… the bummer part is that to remove the tongue, you have to disconnect the brake line and possibly the lights (unless I missed something) I’ll give Ranger a call about options/ upgrades
Are there 3rd party manufacturers that produce swing tongues?

I have the same type of trailer, and it’s really easy to disconnect the brakes and the lights. Just a quick connect coupling and the brakes are done, and the lights just plug in like a trailer harness.

We had the same problem with the garage. Swing away didn’t give us enough room either, so we bought a sawzall. Now the laundry room needs a little remodeling.

ever have any problems w/ air in the brake lines? or does the coupler prevent those issues?

I’ve had a trailer with a removeable tongue, a quick disconnect in the brake line and a flat four wire connecter plug for the wiring. It works great. The brake line disconnect needs to have the check valves in both pieces. With this style of connecter the fluid loss/air in line problem is almost non-existent. After 7 or 8 years and letting the reservoir get too low, I did have to bleed the brakes. Keep in mind that most drum brake systems need to have the brake shoes re-adjusted now and then. Hope this helps.
