I dealt with Best Construction when we were looking to build an addition. He was very accomodating. Me met him and the Home & Builders Show. If I recall correctly, His name was Phillip Best.
Here’s Stick Boy’s website >>> http://www.schuurhandy.com/
He’s located in Plymouth and does work all across the metro from the reading I did and may work further south. And since he’s an IDA regular, you know he’s going to be a good guy.
Gary/ James,
Thanks for the kind words and recomendation. The web site has not been updated for a while all though there is good info on there and will show you we do good quality work. I am always happy to help out a fellow ida member and traveling a little south is not a problem.
Matth,
I just had some work done by stick boy….you’ll see my stamp of approval on his forehead.

He’s doing other work in the area too.
If you need a good drywaller that does nice texturing and painting give me a call, i’ve been at it for 20 years and have taught my son how to finish and hes good at it. I can send pictures of the prism swirl ceilings i do. If you need to hire a good drywall finisher, first of all he has to do it everyday and is to the point where he dosen’t need to sand, if hes still sanding hes still learning.
I have built several homes with Steve Carlson Construction and he is AWESOME. He frames like most guys trim. He builds 1-2 homes a year and does some additions. Highly Recommended. His number is 259-8536 or 281-0476.
A good bet is to go to the home shows this spring. The St.Paul one isn’t that bad, but your best bet is the Minneapolis one. I do heating and air, but don’t know of any contractors for build down there!
Good Luck!
If you ever need some painting advice or just general questions. I have been a new home painter for 15 years, I would be glad to offer you some advice.

Dont go with sunwood homes out of rochester. Make sure u get to know ur builder first, look at his other job sites, ask ppl he has done buissness with first. My parents just built a house and my mom should have been the GC for the job then the guy they hired, such a joke
Thanks for all the advice guys. It’s greatly appreciated. We met with the bank and are meeting with a builder on Monday, more banks and builders to follow. I’ll be in touch with everyone who is offering services. It’s great to have this resource.

Rochester Home Show is this weekend, a great place to get allot of ideas for your new house.
I know quite a few contractors in this area. I could do some checking for you if you would like.
Also, take a look at a few of the houses they have built. Really pay attention to detail.
Another big difference is if the build is a custom home builder, or spec. homes.
Spec homes have a tendency (in my opinion) to not be very good workmenship.
You pay a little more for a custom builder, but you can really get what you want!
How do the new system built homes stack up to the stick built homes? Looking for positives and negatives, I know the older prefab homes were pretty cheaply made, I walked through a new one yesterday build by Rockland homes and it looked nice.

Give Paul a call with RBI Construction. They are out of Sparta, WI. If you don’t have plans yet, give me a jingle. I do some home design on the side. Rates, $0.35/sf living space, $0.10/sf for unfisnished basement and $0.25/sf for finished.
Done a ton of work with Paul and he is great to work with.
