Yes sir! This is the start of my season shift! From today on, everything from the Twin Cities and south will be on a gradual warming and melting trend. Granted………. a slow curve with many ups and downs…… but if the sun’s out, the snow melts a little more each day. Once the snow’s gone……… the ice starts to go too!

Not to stir things up with the ice fans……. but open water rules!

I’m holding you to it Bud! I still have some ice fishing to do but come on spring/open water/warmer temps.

Yesterday when I was crossing the Eisenhower Bridge I noticed a small boat pulled up on the ice at the cut that enters Mud Lake. I then noticed about 40 yards from the boat on the ice was a guy ice fishing that cut.
Apparently he was doing a little of both! Winter fishing and summer fishing!

The sun came out for a brief spell today and while I don’t know exactly what the high penetration zone is, I was delighted to see some truth to the meteorological instruction I learned from Paul Douglas all those years ago! On concrete, SE corner of the house……… was 2 small water spots where ice had been at around 11am. I didn’t go investigate the blacktop but that’s got a pretty thick coat of ice and snow on it yet.

Not much melted in the sun today……. it’s still early in the process…… but just a few days ago…… sunny and NO melting. Today……. brief window of sunshine and still got a few dribbles on the ground!

By mid Feb., this gets very noticeable………… mostly cuz I watch for it every winter!!!

Hear there is a lot of snow north of us. Some are hoping this stuff goes off slow. Else we may have another flood. Which I wouldn’t be looking forward to seeing again this year. A little high water to help clean things up, but no floods.
I’m enjoying this ice fishing but would welcome the warmer weather.

Herb, look at it this way. You will be able to get your suntan from the sun instead of having to spend all your money on tanning booths. [you showed us you were sunburn in this pic you showed us . ]
