I am looking for a new dog. My Brittney was put down a couple weeks ago and I am looking for a new member of the family. I have thought about it for a while now and know that I miss having a dog. So, I am looking for a 2-4 year old that is preferably house broke but I can train if need be. The dog needs to have a good temperment with children and be willing to do a little hunting. If anyone has or knows of anything with these requirements please let me know. Thanks all.

JC, Sorry to hear you and you family lost your dog. I don’t have a dog for you but when I saw your post I had to respond. I had a Weimaraner as a kid and she was the best darn dog in the world. I highly recommend a Weimaraner as a family dog. Good luck!

I was considering a Weimaraner for my next hunting partner, but up here where it’s colder than billy heck, I’m probably going to stay with a yellow or chocolate. I’ve had friends with these dogs and they make great family pets, they just don’t stand up to the elements as well as some of the other popular hunting breeds. Good luck finding the right dog for your family.

My Weim’s been good for 12+ years. She doesn’t like 0 weather but I think you probably don’t hunt in it either. I expect to get another one as soon as she’s gone. Knows more than some women I know 3-4 times her age.

I’ve got a 14 month old GSP (which is close to a weimeraner)and she is a great family dog. She was outside with me tonight ripping around the yard and didn’t seem too put out about the cold. She was pretty glad to go back in, however.

When it comes times for me to get another dog I’m going to look real hard at a new breed called Labradoodles.
They are crossing the great nature and abilities of labs,
with the hypoalergenic properties of poodles.
Their hair doesn’t shed and don’t stink as bad when wet,
yet are as smart and personable as you could ever expect.

You can’t do any better than a Brit! They love to hunt either land or water, and they are the most loving dog there is.

Hi Jeremy, I posted this link on the site somewhee before but it’s worth posting again here. There are lots of great dogs that need a new home at the Shelters around the state. A lot of them the owners had to move where they couldn’t take it with or the owners couln’t no longer care cfor them. Some are strays that were just put out. My wife is a volunteer at the Dunn County Humane Society and gets to bring one home on weekends for fostercare. The one we had last was a Shih Tzu
cute dog dosen’t shed. Click on the link for Dunn County and check out Marty, Betsy, or Kori. I believe you and your family can find just the pet your looking for from the comfort of your home by just checking out the numerous links on this site. Happy Pet hunting. Steve Future Family Pet
