No, we don’t need sports forums! This is a fishing website. Don’t get me wrong. I watch sports and talk about sports just as much as anyone. I just don’t think we need to accomodate every possible topic that comes up on the website. Keep it simple, right?

Yeah but if its a fishing website, why do we have hunting forums? Go with the sports forum. What can it hurt?

The way I see it a sports forums would be less distracting for people who do not want to read it, if they do not want to see it threes no need to go there.

i think the main problems is that we sometimes get 3-4 posts on the same subject…so it can look overwhelming…

Viks-GB-Moss for example, there was at least 3 threads

It’s like this…….. I hunt. I hunt quite a bit. But I was interested in hunting conversations in the old days because someone would place the post where I was looking. This year, I went to the hunting forum ONCE….. just to look at buck pics.

What it hurts is activity. I could be wrong but it seemed to me that the hunting forum, being new last year, had more activity than this year. I had nothing to discuss and with the vast number of fishing forums to try and keep up on, I didn’t bother with the hunting forum.

I see sports as something “out of the way” and it won’t get much attention. It really won’t.

    Think about this:

If you’re involved with a sports topic in the “Catch-All” Forum, you have an active interest. In your frequency of activity, you see someone else’s fishing question and jump in to help. There are times that fishing talk gets slow…….. like now. It happens every year. If all I read is ice and Pool 4, I’ll actually become disinterested overall, and NOT check the site much. The “Catch-All” is what keeps me going and keeps my frequency up.

Truthfully, there’s other reasons I check in quite often but I know a seperate forum would reduce the amount of involvement and cause further complications.

“Catch-All” is just that and I think we should be able to accept that definition upon logical and patient understanding. “All” means anything and everything (within decency, that is) and if we make a stipulation for sports, we will have begun our journey down the road of topic discrimination.

General Discussion – What does that mean? Yes, this is a fishing website but we all know what sets IDA apart from the rest. Do we really want to jeopardize that? This site has something special…….. we should preserve it.

Is it maddening that there is sports talk? Or is it maddening that we’re starved for fishing talk and it’s too slow to find much going in that catagory? What’s the real question and once defined, is it worth tamporing with the chemistry that sets IDA apart and above it’s competitors?

I’m a little bit passionate about this site and the people behind it so please, pardon my intensity, but I really see this as a distant pitfall. Not that it would kill an existance, just the face of what it is today.

Be diligent in your reasonings over this topic. It’s too important to just side with an emotional impulse. On a pro/con sheet……… this change doesn’t hold water.

I voted yes because I’d like to have a specific location where I could go to get a good laugh….. How could anyone take Moss mooning someone seriously or really care? Or why would anyone debate whether or not Favre is the greatest? Not sure but it sure provides for some great humor……..
    Just my 2 cents……

After reading some of the other opinions and some thoughtful logic…I would like to strike my original vote of Yes…to a No. I personally could care less about Football or any other team oriented sport , but Stillakid has some very valid points. This site ia a lot more than fishing, and that is what keeps it the best on the web
Soon all the football trash talk and heated debates will be over and we will all forget about it, until next fall

A Humor Forum perhaps? Is that what I’m hearing?

There’s plenty of great humor all over this website and that is definitely an asset! I can’t say I feel that strong either way because there are times when its fun/informative to read the various members opinions on the big 4……

Now if Moss was a fishermen well then we have a different ballgame……..

This site is great the way it is.

No need for us to try to build a better mouse trap, or fix something thats not broken.

As long as we’re kicking around the idea of a new forum, I’d think a recipe forum would be cool. We all fish, and/or hunt on this board, and its a safe bet we eat what we harvest. It might be neat to share our secret recipes. Heck, if they’re good enough, we could put them into a book and sell them as a fund raiser for a good charitable organization.

Recipe book? Do you suppose Shore Lunch would be able to sue for my submission?

I gave it a bunch of thought and was sent more than a few persuasive PM’s about this, all of which asked me NOT to seperate out the sports talk. So that’s what we’ll do. We’ll sit pat with things the way they are. I’m aware that the vote swings towards going with the sports forums but more than a couple guys stated in a reply that after they read some of the posts they would switch their vote if they could. I also had a couple guys PM and ask if they could re-vote. Thanks to all that shared their input and I hope this descision makes the most sense for the greatest majority of our users.
