I’m neutral on Randy. He is a great reciever with lots raw talent and I think it’s up to the team to decide if he stays or goes. If I as a fan don’t care for the overall team character, I won’t support them.
What does concern me is Leonard Little here in St Louis. A few years back, he killed a woman while driving drunk and was DWI popped a second time B4 the start of this season. It tears me up to see a Little jersy on a young fan. We as parents are the ones responsible for helping our kids pick role models. MY .02 Kevin

You don’t have to be a good person, or even liked by many people in order to be a good football player! As for not making it to the pro bowl, thats what happens when a player misses almost a third of the season with an injury. You do know that he ended the season only one TD short of a tie for most in the league this year didn’t you? 2 catches short of leading the league, and again after missing a third of the season!

As for being a leader, he has been a leader from a players point of view until his walk off. He has tried to lead by example. He showed up to training camp in the best condition of his career, as told by many. He has accepted his role in the game plan, either as the “decoy” for other recievers, or as the main target, as a blocker, or anything the coaches have asked of him. He has played hurt. He has been one of the best, if not THE best player at his position in the league this year, as shown by the number of TD’s he has, and again after missing a third of the season. He did catch the winning TD pass in Washington for his team to walk into the playoffs head first, only to have it called back by a holding call on a third stringer. He has had more than a couple TD’s taken back for penalties as a matter of fact. That is very frustrating for him I’m sure. He has been on the side line trying to pump his team up all season. He has done everything a player is expected to do to be a leader on this team, but it has been to no avail. Our defense has given back every single point he has scored and more this season. Why shouldn’t he be frustrated? I would be, you would be, we all would be. Maybe he didn’t handle it the way you would have liked him to, but why should he? With the exception of maybe Duante Culpepper, he has done more than any other player on that team to give them a winning season, and the rest of the team has not held up their end of the bargin. Do you think it would be better for him to stand on the sidelines rip into his teamates about their crappy play as you are willing to do him, or was he better off holding his tongue and walking away from it?

How many wrongs make a right? He was better this year…… by far……… than he’s been in the past but his past is still too recent and people have been waiting for this. The road to recover from ill fan fare is a long one and this season was a good effort. But how many wrongs make a right?

Randy’s not the only one who pulled his weight this year. Williams leads the NFL in sacks and accounts for more tackles than anyone else on the team. Mewelbe Moore stepped up to plate and played ball like a pro bowler, only to have the healed RB’s reclaim their position. Robinson and Buerlson have made some key receptions and contributions to the offensive effort. Anderson’s having a decent season kicking between the posts.

The defensive secondary is what is hurting so badly and the penalties……… too many this year. Not enough take aways/turnovers on defense. Too many on offense. Randy got the ball plucked out of his hands AGAIN by the same guy that sealed the Vikings doom last time those teams met. Randy made mistakes too. No one had a perfect season.

But how many wrongs make a right? THIS is what Randy needs to figure out, pursue, and overcome. His character can bring forgiveness to failures on the field instead of the criticisms of the fans. Look at how many people stick up for Bret Favre and it wasn’t long ago that he had some serious issues! But…….. he did something about it.

Randy took the first step this year……… but needs to cling on to the effort more than he does a football if he’s ever going to get the respect he seeks.

I won’t say he’s not talented. I won’t say he didn’t try. But I will say, the lessons will repeat until the lessons are learned. The ball is………… it’s in Randy’s court.

And today the ball will be seen several times in the GB end zone cradled in his arms! I am cooking up the crow as I write this, to be served post game to all the doubters! The list of disperagers has been already been prepared.

I do not disagree that Randy is a great player, I would even go as far to say that he is the best receiver in the league, it is not his performance as a ball player that I have a problem with. My opinion of Randy has nothing to do with how many games we win or lose. Sorry Gianni I have to disagree with you I think Moss does have a bad attitude, when you can not stay on the field for the end of the game and shake hands with your opponents it shows very poor sportsmanship, is that the kind of role model you want your kids looking up to? I agree 100% with Comanchero15 with Randy it’s all about “ME” and not about the Team, he comes off very cocky. I also agree with the Kid that he has got better but he has a long way to go. Unfortunately I do not think he will ever change, Randy has got away with all the crap he has pulled over the years because he is very talented and no one has had the balls to say to him enough is enough. I have said it before and I will say it again brig back Bud Grant, (unfortunately I know that will never happen) do you think that if Bud was coach that Moss would have got away with walking off the field? I think not, he would have been fined and benched for the next game. So Randy if by chance you read this grow up or just go home.

Once again Moss proves to the world that he has no class by mooning the packer fans after his touch down, it was very embarrassing for his team mates and us Viking fans as well. I hope the NFL slaps him with a BIG FINE$$$$$$

I certainly do not condone his childish behavior and I do not expect it to change anytime soon, if ever! But oh how he can play the game when motivated!

I thought that was one of the funniest end zone dances I have ever seen!!!! and it was no more embarassing than any of the other ones.

Since everyone here is debating embarassing moves by football players I can only wonder why noone is crucifying Favre for trying to start a fight with Johnstone during the game. He pushed a ref out of the way to get at him and never drew a flag. Or how about the Packers fighting and pushing each other on the sidelines?
if we’re going to be politically correct about this it has got to go both ways. We cannot pick out the flaws of one player without holding all the other players in the league to the same standards.
Personally i could give a rat’s a$$ what any of the players do when they are not playing the game as long as they get it done on the field.
    My two cents.

No doubt about it, Randy Moss is one of the best recievers in the game right now. But catching a lot of balls, doesn’t mean a thing to me…I’d rather watch someone who respects the game and everyone associated with it than someone like Moss who thinks he can get away with any sort of behavior because his name is Randy Moss. I remember when I was a little just a little tike and there were players like Jerry Rice and Chris Carter who were both great recievers and they didn’t find it necessary to mock the other team every chance they got….they just went out, got the job done, and that was it.

I blame the TV camera’s for the change in players behavior. They show more footage of guys standing on the sidelines than they do of the actual game. That makes it real easy for someone to get recognition not for what they do on the field, but rather what they do when they’re on the sidelines. Never do you see big name stars standing near the field cheering on their teammates that play on the opposite side of the ball from them….they’re always near the stands where they can trash talk the fans if they want to.

I hope college ball never gets as bad as the pro’s (although its getting close) otherwise i wont have anything to watch and i’ll have to start doing something active (like excercise )

When they showed a poll in St Paul for who thinks the reason for the loss on the game Moss walked off, they all said Moss. Hell, when your home team dont like you, I dont think many other fans would. But really its sad, when the people that should have your back, say ‘git out’.

I thought Randy’s TD dance was one of the best things I saw all year. especially after all the crap that you so called Viking fans are giving him and all the crap those pack fans were giving him heck you want to complain you Vike fans should be saying how classless the Packer fans are for holding up all there signs about moss True fans stick behind there team and there players. but that is the sad thing in Mn the vikes fans hate them when they suck and love them when they win.
Myself am not a huge Moss fan I am not a huge Vikes fan I route for the COWBOYS. but after seeing the moon I have alot more respect for moss. in my book he now goes down with some of the best athletes who don’t give a damn what you think or the press thinks and are there to play the game and not be a puppet like the rest of them.
(Randy Moss, Dion Sanders, Dennis Rodman. and many others) those are the true athletes who are themselves. and not puppets. you mentioned role models well I have always heard growing up to be yourself. thats what these guys are doing.
    and I think its awesome.
hell when I was 16 I even got a pair of Dennis Rodman shoes and his book for my birthday. one of the best birthday presents I ever got.
Good job Vikes and who knows maybe next week randy will tell ya all to suck it.

Ouch. No comment. Have to agree about the fan part. Viking fans don’t back their team unless they are winning. They turn against them if they lose. Have to admire the Packer fans though as they do back their tean no matter what. The Vikes are our home team if you live in Minnesota and I’m not a big football fan but I do have to stand behind my home team win or lose. If they would lose the next game they are still the team to back if you live in Mn. While I agree to be yourself I also agree to be nice and polite. Gee, do I sound like a Dad? lol. Oh well, my Dad said I was a rebel because he and I didn’t always see eye to eye. But Nates not only my son but my best friend too so us fishin Buds are a team. I’m just more older and mellow.

Where was the outcry when Favre walked off the field at the Dome in 2002? What is more uncalled for, mooning the GB fans who have a tradition of doing the same, or Favre punching a Willy Offord after the questionable late hit penalty on Johnstone. Why wasnt Favre ejected? What do you think would happen in Moss was addicted to booze or pain killers, would he be treated w/ sympathy or dismay?

Is this favoritism, hypocracy or racism.

Very interesting piece on Moss on ESPN last night. They interviewed Michael Irvin and Mike Ditka and neither had anything good to say about Moss. Neither would want the guy on their team no matter how good he is. He is not good for the Vikings or the NFL. He should be banned from the NFL. There are kids out there that look to the guy as a role model and that just can’t be a good thing. He is not a team player. He plays for Randy Moss and nobody else. Viking fans are embarrassed to have the guy on their team. If I were sad enough to be a Viking fan I would be embarrassed by Moss as well. It would be embarrassing enough just to be a Viking fan. He is bad for the NFL no matter what team he plays for.

M Irvin was a decent received who benefited from Aikman, Smith and a great O-line.

Ditka had one of the greatest teams ever assembled and won one Superbowl and was never close to a 2nd. How did he do in NO? Would he trade his entire draft for Ricky Williams again? Yeah, he is a great judge of character.

I saw that piece, and I about fell out of my chair laughing. Coming from these two knucklheads, I have a hard time giving them any credibility.

I’m sickened that ESPN, the most prominent sport TV in the world, would hire someone like Irvin. He was a disgrace to the NFL and his peers. Ditka is such a genious, that he traded away a franchise for a head case running back. Please look at the source when the media pushes it’s opinions on us.

Mike Goldberg from ESPN radio is one of the few guys who has publicly said let it go, he was being dumb and childish. For me personally, him mooning the crowd was extremely funny. It didn’t hurt a soul, he didn’t murder anyone, he didn’t sell cocaine to anyone.

This is directed at no one in particular: I sense a large amount of jealousy/hatred towards Randy Moss. While I don’t condone his actions, I certainly think everyone is over the top on this. When the NFL get’s rid of the murders and drug dealers, let’s start to worry about the Randy and TO’s of the league. Until it’s cleaned up the real criminals, let these over grown kids play and be stupid. Because in reality, that’s all Moss is doing, being stupid. We all know he is not the greatest source of character for the human race(I shouldn’t even say this since I don’t know him personally, only through the media’s biased eyes), but then a lot of us aren’t either. So to continue to scrutinize a guy who acts like a teenager, seems rather irrational in my personal opinion. I’ll take his moon and TO’s signing the football everyday of the week compared to the Jamal Lewis and Leonard Littles of the league. All I’m asking for is to keep this in perspective.

If my kids look to any professional athlete as a role model, even if it’s not Randy Moss, than shame on me. I’ve failed as a parent. So you hate the Vikings, good for you. To say that he should be banned is ridiculous. Then we should ban anyone who ever does anything that wouldn’t make a good role model. Okay, Davenport, Favre, Green, and even Reggie White, should be vilified for their actions, or things they’ve said. Come on, it was a game for goodness sakes.

Seeing as I started this thread I should clarify a few things here, first I want to make sure that everyone here knows that I am not upset or mad at anyone who has posted here, we all have different opinions on this subject and that’s fine, this is only football for crying out loud, not worth getting upset over. Second I do not hate Moss I am just very disappointed in him and not just for his ”mooning” Lambeau Field, but all the other dumb stunts he has pulled in the past as well, like saying ”I play when I want to play”, bumping traffic cop with his SUV, leaving field with 2 seconds to play. Just because I am disappointed in Randy does not mean I am one of “those so called Vikings fans”, I stick by the Vikes win or lose, all you need to do is look back at all my past posts on the Vikings threads to know that. However with that being said I do agree that there are allot of fickle Viking fans out there, and that is one thing I do admire about the Packer fans, most of them sick by there team win or lose. As for the comments on the other players who have done worse things than Moss like murder and drug dealing I can not comment on that as I do not follow any other teams, I am only interested in watching the Vikings play and do not follow the other teams that closely. Bottom line is I just wish Randy would grow up and show some class like Chris Carter, Chris has more class in his pinky finger than Randy has in his whole body. I do not know if it is true or not but I heard, and some one did mention it here that the reason Randy mooned Lambeau Field was that every time the Vikes come to Lambeau they get mooned by the Packer fans. Sounds like grade school stuff to me, they did it first so I did it back. Randy would get allot more respect if he would just let things like this go and turn the other cheek so to speak, and no not his butt cheek!

    Go Vikes!!!!!!

Hey now smart guy being cocky like these sports players is one thing but I will never grow out of or be to old to do some of the crazy things some of these players do.
Heck just last week my older brother and I were trying to get Packer Vikes tickets so we could go and paint ourselves purple and Die our hair yellow. we will always be kids at heart and never to emabarassed to say or do anything
