Bub,
There’s a guy named Tim Rainey (sp?) in St. Charles that does a great job and is damn reasonable in price. I’ll try to get his phone number up here for you. St. Charles isn’t too far from Lake City and it would be worth the drive to get him working on your trophies.
John
Wildlife Taxidermy in Buffalo City, WI does a real nice job. The fellow’s name is Warren Rivette and he can be contacted at 608-248-3220. If my memory is correct he charges either $5.00 or $6.00 per inch. Warren is a former Milwaukee Poice Officer. He is licensed by the DNR and US Fish and Wildlife Service, and is a graduate of the Northwestern School of Taxidermy. He has done Walleye, Northern and Crappie for me.
I’ve had all my deer and one fish done at Corcoran’s. He has been doing my deer since I was 14………I’m 34 now……….I know him very well and he does extremely good work and is “average” cost.
I would recommend him for anything when it comes to fur, fin, & feather!!!
I thought they were reasonable, I paid about $130 for an 11 inch long Bluegill that was mounted on a nice piece of wood. And I can’t say enough about the workmanship….no that’s wrong….the artistry.

Yep……..Just waiting for him to get perfection with replicas. Otherwise, I’m going to use LAX reproductions in Wisconsin for my walleye.
The key thing when dealing with Chuck (Chuck Corcoran)…..Tell him how you want the fish mounted. What I mean is this: A normal mount has the “seam” along the back of the fish with the small strip of “black felt” to cover the stitching. This is the norm for all fish mounts. If you do not want this, Chuck will complete the whole fish, but I believe he charges a couple of bucks more. When I had my pike done and went to pick it up, it had the big strip of black felt along the back. I didn’t want this……..so I had him finish off the “back” of the fish too.
His work is very good and detailed. Stop and and check him out!!!
I live in Farmington and am looking for someone to do a good fish replica. Any input would be appreciated.
I am also trying to find a good replica man and have researched for some time.
I have heard about two in Minnesota that are highly recommended. Artistic anglers in Duluth and Fibertech in Brainerd. I know that the turnaround time at Artistic anglers is around a year. At Fibertech I was told that it would take around 2 months. Both of these companies will ship your mounts but it will cost you. Just by looking at pictures that are on the internet and that people have e-mailed me, I would say that Artistic Anglers fish look better. However, you have to wait a long time to get the fish back but to me it is worth it to have one that looks good.
I’ve personally seen Artistic and Fibertech.
After looking at them, I would never get a replica done. Too fake for me……..Throat, gills, mouth don’t look real. Looks like plastic.
Then, last year up on LOTW at the Angle Inlet, I saw LAX reproductions. Can’t tell the difference between them and a real fish. Real looking mouth, throat, & gills. They had a 52″ musky on the wall, next to a 51″ skin mount……..You couldn’t tell which one was skin and which one was plastic.
I’m having my walleye done through them.
Yah, I too think that these look a little fake, but, a Muskie is a lot easier to do than a walleye and that is what I have been looking for. I’ve looked into this LAX before too and at least on their website, their walleye doesn’t look too good. Do you happen to have any better pics of a walleye done by them? If you do or when you get yours back, can you email pics to me? [email protected]
P.S. I think it’s hard to get anyone who can do a real good replica like a guy wants.
Thanks Gary
Pig hunter, I said the same thing, until I talked to them…….call them.
Any of the sites I have looked at either make me believe replica’s aren’t what their cracked up to be or the pics online do them no justice.
Just had a friend contact me and said he saw Artistic Anglers from Duluth at the Outdoor Show. He said the work was incredibly life like.
I guess the best way is to see some of the work “up close and personal” and make a decision…..
BUB,
Fish Taxidermy comes in many forms, body types and experiences. I have done Fish skin mounts for more than 27 years. hand carve my own bodies for a perfect fit every time, and use automotive laquers with an airbrush for painting, the gills are retained in the head. real parts, more natural. if you want me to email you any pictures of a recent 7 pound Largemouth, and near 10 inch BG let me know. Or if you have any questions, just ask away. I am in Apple Valley, about 15 south of Mpls. You need to look at the taxidermist’s work and like it for the price. Doing the math on Rootski’s BG, is almost 12 dollars an inch, seems too high, but if he LOVES the work, price is NO object, right ???? I am currently at $7/inch, but can be flexible with a discount on multiple fish, or when I’m in a good mood, which is often. Thanks Jack.
Jack sent me some pics, looks like he does some nice work. $7 an inch is steal..
im sure there is a minimum on all fish. you cant get a blugill done at 5 dollars an inch thats 10 inches long for 50 bucks
Just a follow up…..drove up to Nisswa with smallie pics in hand to visit with the owner and see his work at Fiber Tech. I was sold instantly upon reviewing his work…it’s amazing!
Most impressive. And the neat thing, he paints them per the customers specs. One example he showed me were 3 different muskies hanging on the wall. All three had subtle differences (fin colors, or different shades of olives/greens, etc.). Amazing the difference it made when looking at the finished products. According to the owner, not only does the paint make the quality of the replica, but even more importantly is the process they use to make their individual species molds….very interesting points of differentiation. I am tempted to take my digital camera along when I go to pick up my smallie to take pics of his work in case anyone inquires….it’s obvious thru this and other discussion threads there is a lot of interest in replicas.
