I may have what some of you might think is a stupid question but I am going to ask anyways. Are there other facts in the Mississippi River that impact the flood stages besides rain (and snow melt in the spring). When I was fishing there this last Sunday, The water was way down compared to when I was on Vacation in June. It was even lower then when I was on Vacation 2 years ago in Oct. Thanks for any info.

That prety much sums it up. Rain, spring run off are two of the main factors…Now it may rain to beat the band down 5 pools and our pool will rais because they are holding back water…In this senerio the reasons are endless…A good way to tell whats going on is by the flow at the dam…this is measured in CFS cubic feet per second…if the flow rate is up the fish will move off the points and back into the holes where the current is easier and that means that the rain or run off is above….if the flow is not increasing but the river is raising then the fish don’t react to that as bad because they are holding the water back…

    I hope this helps

I guess in a way it does. Just found it odd this last trip that after so much flooding we saw in June, that it was so far down. And then I got to thinking about the trip token two years ago (in Oct)where the water was not as high as it was in June but higher then last weekend. Did we really get that much rain that one year that there was still a flooding problem?
