I’d like to personally thank everyone for letting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Minnesota (St. Cloud) be a part of this year’s ARM/BBBS event once again. I was wearing the green t-shirt; the chaperone’s chaperone as some of you kidded me about – we make it a practice to have a staff member present at events and I’ve been lucky enough to go to this each of the past two summers — it is easily my favorite.
I appreciate the great lengths you all must go through to host an event such as this and would like to pass along special thanks to James Holst, Steve Vick, Steve Greene, and Shane Hildebrandt for all your help. I understand a group of guys kicked in to buy bait also – very kind.
The kids, or Littles as we call them (no relation to Mike), all had a blast and have been doing some serious fishing since we got back. I’ve also had several parents call to tell me that their child has been jabbering almost nonstop about the ARM event and how much fun they had; they send their thanks as well. The volunteer chaperones, or Bigs, had an equally good time – one Big Brother has been a part of our organization for 13 years and he told me this is without a doubt the most fun he and his Little Brother have had at any activity…now that’s saying something!
I will continue to sort through the photos I receive and appreciate your understanding in regard to obtaining permission before posting. As before, I think the bright eyes and smiles tell the story best. Any questions about this process, or about Big Brothers Big Sisters, please don’t hesitate to ask. (This is my first experience with online forums/posting, etc. so bear with me if there’s much of a learning curve). Some of you who guided our matches may get written thank you’s in the mail. I plan to post others that come to me via e-mail. I hope you are proud, because this experience means so much to everyone who participates – 100% of our matches who went this summer or last want to do it again if given the opportunity. I’ve been with BBBS for about 5 years, and I can tell you that just doesn’t happen with other events. Thank you for making a difference in these children’s lives and for the memories you helped to create!

    Erin,

I know I speak for many, if not all of the boaters when I say the pleasure was all ours! It’s one event we look forward to each year now. It’s also nice to hear the kids had a good time!

Thanks for the note and welcome to the site. Hope you come back and visit often.

Couldn’t agree with you more Jon this was something I was looking forward to since last year.
To see so many kids enjoying the day and all the big smiles….well like you said….the smiles tell the whole story.
Thank you to BB/BS, ARM, Everts resort and everyone else that made this event a great success again this year!!!
Can’t wait to do it again!!!

You are right, Jon. Although I didn’t run a boat, I had lunch with a couple of the kids and their expressions made the whole trip worthwhile. Looking forward to doing some grunt work again next year.

It was my first year as a boater and it was a great experience. It was wonderful to see the bond between the Big and Little. I hope they got half as much out of the day as I did because it took days to get the smiles out of my head—heck, they are still there at times. I will be a part of the event as long as the good Lord allows.

I also had a blast not only helping get the details set up but also going out fishing in the afternoon. I felt that my duties where better suited to supervise the tent setup and make sure that everyone was laughing before lunch. I will say that I know that Joe and I had a blast out with brian again this year. looking forward to next years event.
