Subject: public access rules
Just a question:
On a public access funded by the MNDNR, can people not using the body of water, park their cars (without trailers) in the lots? IE: they are parking there as a Park and Ride?
Thank you for your response
REsponse:
Hi Clarence,
The public access sites are funded by boaters for boating specific use. They are not meant to be used as park and rides. However there are not any laws/rules preventing someone from doing this except on a few sites listed below. I know many public access sites have parking available on weekdays and fill up on weekends when everyone is boating. As long as your park and ride use is not interfering with those using the lake for water recreation purposes it will be fine to leave a vehicle.
The laws/rules state that no vehicle or equipment can obstruct the ingress and egress of vehicles and boats, especially the drive lanes and launch ramp areas. There is also no overnight camping allowed. On some sites a permit is needed leave a vehicle overnight due to the site having closed hours, usually those within city limits.
These 3 sites have special restrictions and would not allow parking for commuting purposes.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any additional information.
