OK, i’m not exactly on the cutting edge of new developments, but don’t think i’m too far back in the pack on this one.

I was given the ‘hot tip’ that weedless bass spinner baits were taking walleyes.

Had the same info given to me by another serious fisherman yesterday.

Wondering what presentations BESIDES casting to weed edges has been working with these?

I’m thinking trolling along reefs, over wing dams, etc.

    Who has tried it…

The top 2 places in the the FLW Walleye Tour this summer on Lake Oahe, South Dakota trolled bass spinner baits in tree tops and brush. The episode was just on last week, I think.

It’s for real – for spinner baits. Fishing sloughs on the Mississippi (flooded timber) have produced way too many “accidental” catches of big walleyes for it to not be valid to try for walleye with them on purpose. Have taken a bunch in weeds that way as well. I wouldn’t retire your jigging rods anytime soon – just something to try when conditions dictate. Heck, walleyes love Texas rigged plastic worms too.

I would add Chatter baits to this too.

As long as you tune the spinner bait to run straight, there is no reason you couldn’t run it behind a planer board – over weed tops, along a rip rap bank, shoreline etc.. There are so many head, skirt blade combos that you could find just about any configuration you like.

In-Fisherman mentioned the Gopher Tackle Bait Spin many times. It is essentially a small spinner bait minus the skirt tipped with a large minnow. Very effective for a trolling application. You can jig ’em too!

Scroll down the page and look at the “Walleye WBS”

Trolling spinnerbaits is a common practice for Pike and very effective over cabbage flats. I have caught walleyes on spinnerbaits and even topwater lures.
Many, many Eyes have been caught on slow trolled Beetlespins over the years… same type presentation.

what type of experiences do you have with them?
    Any special presentations that help?
Do they run flat, Up or Down?
    Any colors better than others??

I saw Tom mentioned Beetle Spins. We were catching walleyes in the weeds 25 years ago with beetle spins and twister tails. It still works!

Caught an 8.75 lb. walleye on one. Also caught a walleye around 2 lbs on a classic buzzbait. Walleyes will hit anything a bass will.
