I asked this question a while ago and still have no real good yes or no asnwer to it–we bought a lil cabin last fall and it has a concrete floor with instilation under it and all–but with no expansion crackes in it and other than that just a lil cabin–well we did keep heat at 50 all winter and just seems lil a waste of money and wondering if really have to heat it when not there alot during winter months–other than draining lines and all that—will concrete crack or anything like that if too cold and then warm up when we do go there and turn heat on?? even though it would be a slow warm up for floor am sure–but wanting to know it any real damage can happen to floors or mold issuses it walls–condinsation and all that?? love to know if guys with cabins or facts about this??? thanks

If its a floating slab floor, I’d keep the heat on. Getting frost and frozen ground under the cabin, even if the slab in tact with footings, will lift and crack the cement over time. in the spring you’ll find that the concrete will sweat for a long time as the frost comes out from under the structure and that can actually take much longer than on open ground. All the sweating can spell moisture problems in that cabin when you are not there.

I think I’d just keep the heat running.

Turning off the heat may cause problems, especially if you are on clay soil. My driveway next to my garage will raise 1 1/2 to 2″ above the garage floor in the winter. The attached garage is on footings, the driveway a floating concrete slab. The driveway has cracked into smaller pieces. You would not want that to happen to your cabin floor. Turning off the heat does not mean you are sure to have problems, but IMO it will increase the risk.
