Invest and live on the interest.
Would stay single and travel a lot.
Considering I married a very evil woman. I would have spent it on lots of better women.
Luckily my job took me all over the place. So travel has always been achieved.
On a serious note. I would have bought lots of land for deer hunting. Back then you could actually get land extremely cheap.
I would still work if I won the lotto, and by “work” I mean I would have bought a small hardware & bait store up north and paid people to run it for me while I popped in to hang out once in a while. 😁😁
good question…..
young me would have spent it semi recklessly but still would have put a pile of it in the bank. i loved working for my first company so i would have kept coming to work until i had a game plan. i have been pretty lucky and actually won trips, money and all sorts of things in my lifetime.
old me would put 85% of it in the bank and pay off debt. probably tip $100 bills and hand out a bunch to the less fortunate? i would not tell anyone about it either but there would be signs….
i really like this friday night topic……thanks Dutch
Pre kids and wife ? OMG , I would of had a blast but no doubt be broke now . Now that I’m married and have proper supervision it would be invested wisely
I got married and I fell like I won the the lottery
We all did, but like the weather things change.
This marriage thing I will never understand. I’ll have to ask epg how it is. Pretty sure he’s getting ready for another.
Besides that I’d invest in a company I could be hands on with. And I’d keep traveling and campin.
Were hammock camping vermillion this week.
Half would have gone into an investment portfolio, even at that tender age I knew a good money manager I trust to this day. The other half would have gone into land (including a lake place) and the toys necessary to enjoy it for the long term.
I still would have worked but would have been less willing to put up with BS from bosses. I had the opportunities to do interesting things in my career. If the BS required rubber boots I would have been gone. As it was, acquiring a wife (35 years at Thanksgiving) and a son put me in position that I took more crap than strictly necessary to provide them with a stable home life.
IIKTWIKN, I would have made some different choices. No regrets, just have learned some things in my life. I have been blessed with a good life.
Dutchboy, thanks for providing another thought provoking topic.
This reminds me of that scene in Office Space when Peter and the neighbor are taking about what they’d do with a million bucks. Google it…it’s an epic dialogue.
It’s only about $2.5m after taxes. I’d buy a Koenigsegg Agera and just drive fast.
Having a 9 week preemie right after turning 19 sets your life on a path that makes it impossible to speculate on another.
Money always seems to be the x value in these conversations which leads to very familiar responses everyone’s heard 10x over on gained financial opportunities.
How about meeting your mate 5 years earlier, or 10 years later, or waiting to buy a boat, having another kid, asking out a crush ya never did….
Original question deals w how life would change w more or less dough, questions of the heart are much more fascinating.

That’s the first thing I thought when I read the post LOL
I won the lottery last April when I got my freedom again.
Hangin out with the Belle In Charleston this weekend, feels like I won the lottery for the second time
If I won it before I knew my wife, it’s unlikely our paths would’ve crossed with my work bringing me to her hometown.
I would definitely work after winning that sum of money. Beyond a truck and boat and piece of land, the rest would have been invested. I was reckless at a young age with everything but money. Girls, vehicles, and most decisions not involving money were pretty off the cuff and impromptu. Even though I was young and dumb, I’ve always wanted to work for what I have and leave future generations in a better place than I am. Lottery or not that will continue to be true.

Going to be weird to split the stairwell 50/50 when that time comes. 1 up 1 down?
