Firebrand axel grease zirk

Bought my firebrand used last spring, used it at least every other weekend in the summer camping, and every weekend since Christmas ice fishing. Never really worried about the axels rusting and seizing up with so much use. But I’m going to put it away probably until fishing opener now. I wanted to grease the axels so I crawled under it, couldn’t find any grease zirks anywhere. I called a dealer that sells them, they checked into it and said they do not come factory with grease zirks, and doesn’t recommend drilling and tapping after markets in. Does any body out there have any opinion on this? I know ice castles are notorious for them seizing up, I haven’t heard of any other brands with this problem. It’s a torsion axel if that matters. Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks, Drifter.

My FB has aluminum Tubes and the steel axel stubs have a nylon sleeve bushing. You can hyper rotate the axel forward where the flat clears the retaining boss. The whole assembly can be removed and inspected. Now if your talking wheel spindles, then those are like any other spindle and need grease and checked for proper wheel bearing tolerance.

Grease as much as you can, always a good idea.

Huh….. you learn something new everyday. I never really knew what a “torsion axel” really was, and how they work. A little research revealed FB uses Dexter torsion axels. After watching their video I now realize there is no greasing required, other than the spindle bearings. As there is no metal on metal rotation. I feel much better now. Nevermind guys, thanks for the responses.
