Reef Runner Rip Shad tuning?

I got a couple last week because I wanted to try a crank pullin core with a little different action than the Raps I have been so addicted to this summer.

These things run horrible from the box! In addition I can not get them tuned in either, I get it almost running true, tweak the screw a tiny bit more and it pulls wild to the other side…
I tried for about 5 min to tune 2 of them and gave up. This would not be the first time I have tuned lures either so I have to ask for your findings and thoughts guys.

These are the Rip Shad not the rippers or Deep rippers.
    Thanks, Mark

This seems to be a very common problem with rip shads. I quit buying them because I got sick of tuning them. It gets to be a real problem if you try running more than one line. If you get them close I would just leave them because it can get very irritating to deal with. I Stick with the shad rap because I know they will run true everytime out of the box.

Sounds just like the flicker shads. Patience is rite. It helped me to use the same tuning tool each time so I could get used to the feel of the adjustments that needed to be made. Many of the adjustments you could hardly tell that anything moved. There also seems to be a difference in moving the top of the eyelet as opposed to the front of the eyelet. This may help on the rip shads to.

    Hard to tune, Yes.
But a great bait none the less.
I’ve found that if you can actually tell that you’ve moved the eye, then you have definitely over adjusted.

By the way, the reason they catch so many fish is in large part due to the erratic way that they run. Which is also why they are so hard to tune.

These are not the lures that you are going to try and run at 4 or 5mph.

    X2

Couldnt have said it any better myself.

Key is very small movements, so small you cant even tell you moved it

The 400 series run better out of the packaging than the 200 and are easier to tune.

In my experienc it’s worth the investment of time to tune but don’t try to run the 200’s over 3 mph or you are asking for headaches…

I’m in full agreement with Ted on this one.
    And JJ as well.

Great baits and anyone who doesn’t want theirs because they are to hard to tune can feel free to send them to me.

It’s a definite sign when a company makes a special tuning tool. If you haven’t purchased Reef Runners tuning tool you might want to spend the few dollars. It allows for much finer tweaks, especially when your hands are cold…

Great lures but like what has been mentioned previously their seek and destroy design takes a LOT of patience to tune properly. And like all man made products, you will have a bad one now and again.

Show me this tuning tool if you would please!
I’m sure it would work on most all types and brands.
