While looking at the latest fishing catalogue from Cabela’s it dawned on me they sure are pushing their brand name on a lot of different items. So much so (seemingly) I am kinda put off by it.

Buy it, try it break it, return it. Not all their stuff is top notch but their warranty sure is. If u had a company wouldn’t you push your name brand to increase profits?March 19, 2009 at 2:10 pm #760271Yeah…same with their on-line catalog. But one nice aspect, whether apparel or equipment ~ if it says “Cabelas” their return policy is great.

Like it or not, they’re “sourcing” the same products that are already out on the market or have been previously. Rather than paying another company to manufacture products that they purchase (with the other company’s profit built-in), they mfr. “themselves” by having the parent company do it, or going straight to the other company’s supply source and having them do it.
This allows them to charge less for the same or similar product, which can benefit the consumer through competition. However, there can be quality control issues in doing it this way as you lose the inherent knowledge-base a company builds in seeing a product from its infancy to market maturity. It also can drive smaller companies with a great product/idea out of business.

March 19, 2009 at 3:59 pm #760321That’s what worries me. Quality control and some history on the product. When they slap their name on something I’m just not sure about the actual product. Especially if it looks familiar. Does it perform as well as the brand they are mimicking? Lots of high end products that Im not sure about. I have never had a doubt about their clothing. I own a ton of it.
March 19, 2009 at 4:15 pm #760329I just returned a pair of 2000 gram Cabelas rubber boots that had a small tear in heal after 2 years of hard use, no box, no reciept, walked out of there with a brand new pair. Tell me any other retailer that has customer service like that?? They can put their name on anything I buy from there
One good thing is that that Sportsman Warehouse is off the map, I couldnt even return an item I had just purchased there with a receipt??? Joke of a operation
March 19, 2009 at 4:34 pm #760335I’m with you guys on Cabela’s return policy. I’ve had more than one spectacular return. I wish I was closer to one since I hate buying things (especially clothes) online.

March 19, 2009 at 6:03 pm #760379I wonder if the new Ford F-250 “Cabelas” Edition can be returned to the store after 200,000 miles for a new one??
I’m waiting for a “whitetails & Walleyes” edition!
March 19, 2009 at 6:53 pm #760403but cabelas isnt the only one… look at sears, do you avoid kenmore or craftsman cuz its only sold at sears? (well kmart too, if you want to get technical)
bass pro = redhead gear
gander = guide series
best buy = insigniai have a much easier time dealing with the CS from cabelas than any of others i listed. at least cabelas doesnt hide the fact they have their fingers in everything by marketing a different brand name.

Some people will just never be happy. Unbelievable in a time when stores like Sportsmans Warehouse are going under.

Let see, how long could a person stay in business if everyone did that?
Might want to take care of your friendly Cabalas before they are the next on the auction block.
March 20, 2009 at 7:56 am #760623They are the ones that hailed me to come on in and they would take care of me gladly… Seems that I was’nt the first one with the issue, just face it the company stands behind their products and is still in buisness…… boo hoo to SW

Sure is now….

Cabelas is one of the biggest TOURIST attractions in the state, not too sure they are shaking in their boots in fear of the auction block? They generate revenue for the state, not just take it away…
March 20, 2009 at 10:43 am #760634No..I’m sure they aren’t shaking in their boots.
It’s not rocket science to know that if everyone returned product after using it for two years for a new one…whatever it is…someone is going to go broke.
Keep up the good work and support your favorite sporting goods store!

And some people read to much into things and ruin an otherwise harmless conversation.
