I am thinking about buying this unit for the console of my boat and running my fishmark 480 at the bow. I would like some feedback on this unit. Is this a good color unit for the price? I know the pixels and power output is lower than the lowrance models but do I really need all that for the mississippi? Any help would be appreciated!

I don’t know about, what you need, but…..
I have the fish elite 500c, it may be the 502c, (whichever on has the external GPS antenna)But I love it, the display works great for me. It is easy to view in the bright light, and it seems to work well. For a person who fishes for pleasure…. Great unit. and it is a lot cheaper than the Lowrance units. Not sure off hand the difference in the fishmark and the fish elite, could be one has GPS? Check Jolly Ann marines web page!!

    IMO, go for it…..

You don’t necessarily need the extra power for the river, except maybe when you are running at higher speeds. You lose a bit of resolution going to the eagle 500c versus the lowrance units. If you can swing it, I would go with the LMS-520C without GPS. The downside would be having to switch out your power and ducer since you already have the fishmark 480. If you want to avoid the extra work, going with an Eagle would be easier for sure. Eagle does make a unit with higher resolution, the Fishmark 640C. I has all the same connections as the 480 and 500c, but has 640×480 resolution. It’s a nice sonar unit for the money.

    Targa,

I have a 500C that I use here on pool 8. It works fine, I’ve actually been very pleased with the performance. If you like the 480 that you have, the 500C will be a definate upgrade. Let me know if you want to see the 500C in action.
