John and I put the dock in at our cabin this weekend! It was our first time putting in a dock and it went well! And with assistance from gravity and the hill we got ‘er in the water… no one needed stitches! But we’ll probably hire that done next year. smash Or we might look into getting a sectional dock for next year too – we shall see. Once we got the dock positioned after its initial landing I couldn’t wait to cast a line. Not much was biting since it’s still early and the ice hasn’t been off for long yet, but it was fun to be able to fish off my own dock for the first time. A lifelong dream of mine has become reality! yay mrgreen woot

I really thought when you put your own dock in, at your first lake property, for the very first time, there’s supposed to be some kind of celebratory tradition….. Like, jumping off the end, cannonball, in a polar plunge type style! whistling
I’m sure it’s like a mandatory thing in MN. Super sure. woot

Yes, its just like saying you caught a huge fish, shot a monster buck and dont have any pics to prove it. At least Sharon has the pics this time, but that dock needs christening!

Congrats, its a great feeling when you get it in… as an owner of countless docks over the years, I would highly suggest getting an aluminum sectional dock on wheels that adjust the height with a power drill, it makes lake life so much more enjoyable…

That water was way too cold for a cannonball! John was in the water in neoprene waders and could feel how chilly it was, so my christening was fishing off of it the day we put it in! wink Once it warms up MAYBE I’ll do a cannonball! rotflol

Nah they’re not water dogs and they tend to avoid going in to water. I’ve never actually seen either of them swim.

We are looking at that style from FLOE Docks! It looks like a simple system and sturdy too!

The dock we have now is one long piece and it rolls in pretty nicely, but we need to hire it to be taken out. We’re looking at one of those aluminum sectional dock systems to see if that might work better for us. waytogo

Sharon I’d look into a winch system before hiring it out or buying a new dock.

You could set something up yourself pretty easily (like a manual winch or ATV winch mounted to a tree or earth anchor)

HeySharon I think your Dad has a winch collecting dust in his garage, yours if you want it.
