I retie baits quite often and use a flouro leader for Wacky worms can I just tie direct to braid? i use 8# sized line. I just hate trying to tie flouro leaders in the boat thought this would be easier or will I lose a lot of fish?

I don’t fish wacky rigs that often but I do fish weightless Texas rigs often. Usually when we are fishing tournaments and are fishing docks I fish in the lead with the jig on flouro and he fishes behind with a weightless Texas rig straight to braid. He gets pretty much just as many bites as I do. I’ve fished to straight to braid a lot on Minnetonka which is a clear lake and the fish don’t seem to care at all.
I use a fluro leader when I wacky rig with braid. I tie mine really long so that I can retie several times if I get bit off. I always use a fluro leader when fishing with braid. The only time I don’t is when fishing a Flog in the slop. I now use the FG knot to connect braid to fluro. It is a little hard to learn to tie. Once you get it down it is not to hard. By far the best braid to Fluro knot that I’ve found. Strong and comes thru the eyes real easy. No knot thump that you normally get
I prefer the leader. I also tie it long (10-12ft). But if I’m on the water and the leader breaks off, I’ll just go straight braid.

I have always used 8 pound mono for wacky rigging and fishing with a tube. Tried braid to floro last year and kept breaking at the knot, so I went straight to braid and didn’t catch near as many. Switched in the boat to mono and started catching them again.
For largemouth not as big of a deal to use straight braid. Smallmouth always for me.
I’m just used to tying a leader knot now so I use it on all finesse rigs.
One other alternative if you want high-viz above the water and clear below is a Sunline fluorocarbon product that has sections of neon followed by 30 inches of clear. Just tie the wacky worm at the end of the 30 inch clear section… fish can’t see it – and no more leader knots.
I use the 16 lb. when skipping under docks, it sinks uniformly versus braid + fluoro, and it’s more abrasion resistant and less visible than using just straight braid:

Just spool with fluoro and be done with it, unless you plan on dead sticking.
Braid and fluro for me also. Some waters I’ve got by with braid straight to the lure. Other water the leader I’ve done better. Very easy tie with uni knot fluro to braid tie in a boat rocking with not much issue. Only time I break at the knot is maybe snagged up and it takes a ton to do it. Most times I have to cut off and re-set up.
I like that the fluoro sinks on the end of the buoyant braid. I use the modified Albright knot. I’m sure the other knots are great, too, but i know how to tie this one.
I do a lot of wacky worm fishing in clear and shallow water. I always tie on a flouro leader under these conditions. I fish a lot of docks also and I like the abrasion resistance. I have tried fishy without a leader and I just feel I do better with a leader. I use a uni to uni knot wrapped 8 times and I have never had a knot failure. The one thing I don’t like about a leader is that I feel I can’t skip the bait as well with a leader.
