I know there are tons of videos’s out there on Hunting and Harvesting Trophy deer. IF you were to make a video or DVD, and could pick want you wanted to see or learn, what would be the video would you like to see? Or are you happy just seeing killing shots?

Jarrad, This exact conversation was discussed by a friend and I about 4 years ago. My own personal view is, I wish they would take 6-8 hunters and show their trials and tribulations of their hunts, both good and bad. Going from setting their stands and why they picked these spots to a late muzzleloader hunt and every detail in between. I do like seeing the big boys going down but when the next thought through your head is but if I had the corporate world behind me I too could pay someone to do everything for me except shoot it. IMHO that is about all I get out of those shows is showing me that they know how to shoot, and sometimes that’s shakey at best. I would like to see someone do all the work to outsmart the mighty whitetail!

I like go to tactics such as stand locations and telling why you picked that spot. Also why is it better than anouther. How to chose your stand location acording to the wind direction. Were are you hunting such as the state you are in ,to wood lot or field edge to open ground like out west. What draws the deer to your location. Also focus on bedding areas and how close to or not to hunt bedding areas. When is the best time to hunt that certian location and why?I like to see the equipment you chose to use from your bow down to your clothes.I like more of the videos that I can learn from.Kill shots are great, but i like to see what made it happen.I dont think it is always about the kill that makes the video.Just my 2 cents

just like Tony said. I love to watch the Primos team or Drury outdoors. But there are sometimes where i want to know certain things about how they determine what they are going to do. Like deciding when to climb down in sept. when you are hunting a food source that is covered w/ deer. You don’t want to give away your presence, so how do they know when to get down when you can’t see the deer? Not only that, but i could think of dozens of questions to ask the pros.

I think Tony P hit it right on the head! Lets see why the spot they have chosen is THE spot to be for that day….maybe put up an aerial map showing beding areas, food plots, bottlenecks, prevalent wind and how to approach ect…relative to the treestand location. Then gear selection and decisions made. Watching these videos you realize that it took an enormous amount of time to get that 30 second kill shot. A good video will give you the impression that they really know what they are doing! If I watch a video I want to learn how and why!

1 final request: dont dub anything in! Nothing worse than a video where they cut and paste a kill shot together from 4 different days of hunting. People see right through it and your credability as a hunting show is “shot”

Anouther thing I can’t stand is watching a hunt filmed in a high fenced area .Then see the animal fall next to the fence. I am a hunter and a outdoorsmen not a killer.

I agree with everybody else for the most part, Ithink more info on how when and why.I belive alot of the time some of the videos out there they assume that the people watching are as knowledgable as they are. Also just my opinion but i think that alot of people would like to see hunting and hunting methods applied on land that is not a game farm or (kingranch) but more like what a big percentage of guys are going to actualy hunt on. public forest land , private farm ground , riverbottom , ect. Probaly not as action packed as far as kill shots go but i personly am not that intrested in wathing a guy shoot a deer that has pretty much been groomed for that reAson all year. I think that if that if you guys do a hunting video by the same standards that you have done the fishing ones it would be a hit. I think alot of what you guys have done so far is more informitive than alot of the stuff that has been done by the guys that have been doing it for the last 25 years. good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After reading through the above posts. I think a lot of you guys would enjoy Pat Reeve’s show Driven 24/7. They break down each hunt with topo’s/arials maps and tell you why they were successful on that hunt. If you don’t get the Men’s Outdoor Recreation channel. Yell at your cable provider or switch to Dish Network or Direct TV. Both now carry the channel.

How about starting on realistic property and has realistic deer(bucks) Sure it’s nice to see the monsters but lets face it how often does the average hunter see these. I can say I hunt my butt off from beginning to end and if I see 2-3 shooters I consider it a extremely succesful year. Most footage from these shows are big $$ bucks. Who can afford 5 grand and up for a buck each year? Then again who wants to pay that? Oh, yeah and if he’s under 130″ plan on paying a penalty fee of $1,000 What works for some doesn’t work for all and it varies from area to area. Your best lessons come from trial and error! Take in what they tell you but certainly don’t live by it!
