Nope I saw it earlier, but had no time to sit and read or write on it.

I agree with Tony. My favorite grunt tube is also the True Talker by HS That has been the “NAIL IN THE COFFIN” for 3 of my 5 bucks taken. Much less brought in some other “BIG BOYS”. Estrous call is the Primos can. I have a few rattling bags and a Primos fake set of horns. I usually rely on one bag not sure what the name is???

Snort Wheeze or growling has also brought some exciting times around my stand.

Just kidding man…great advice! Good to see the excitement and passion everyone shares with deer hunting

Also, if I spot a buck going the other direction, I’ll grunt like a hog begging for food, trapped in a pen.

I’ve brought decent bucks straight across and open field to me, some as close as 30 feet, starring me down, ready to charge.

    It is all timing.

Lots of great advice here too, but you also have to be in an area that does have a decent buck population. It is difficult to grunt a buck away from a doe. THAT is where the bleat comes into play. At that time, don’t focus on bringing in the buck, focus on bringing in the doe. The buck will follow the doe.

A few years back, I got a BIG 10 pointer. He was with 2 fawns. My only guess is that one of the fawns came into heat. He wouldn’t leave the fawns. So, I bleated in the fawns and brought them to me across and open field to 80 yards of me.

Again, timing is critical. If the buck is with a doe grunts and rattling is going to give you limited success.

I agree Lip, don’t over do anything and learn to read your deer and what thier thinking, especially if theres more than one in front of you. Ratteling is my way of letting the bigger bucks know that theres serious competition in his woods that he may have to defend, instead of the lesser bucks, and just to bring him in halfway close when hes 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile out and even farther on the right day and have no doubt he can hear it too. I grunt them in close for a shot after that and remember not to get to anxious on the calling, its not needed. Believe it or not i’ve just used a grunt call the last 9 years and never even picked up a doe bleet and i never even knew what one was until last year, i just depended on a grunt tube and bleeted from a tube, might have to get one this year. You guys know that on some days the woods are perfect, clearity in the air, wind, things drying perfect, everything in the woods seems to be just perfect and it is, put this together in october and november and man the hunt for the big boys is on.

I know what your saying Tony and with the grunting of the hog Gary, its good if you can determine what the right thing to do at the right time is. I typed in something last year about when your in your stand and you’ve seen decent buck movement the last few days or week and this time there seems to not be a buck in the woods anywhere. I thought that they have to be along the fencelines or similar areas laying low, resting and just watching, especially if theres any squirell or grouse hunting going on. I’ve kicked up alot of deer laying low along fencelines where you’d think theres only rabbits and quite a ways from any woods at all. Ive always known that a nice fenceline between two woodplots or a woodplot and a feeding or watering area was a good spot, i’ve just never setup and hunted a fenceline to try it out, has anyone else done this with any success? Ive glassed fence lines as soon as theres enough daylight that i can see out 200 or 300 yrds and seen a few bucks laying down but nothing big, maybe the bigger bucks are on the nicer fencelines in areas that hold the better does, the older bucks have to have to know where these vantage spots are. Ive always been the edge of the woods between two or more good feeding and bedding areas, maybe this year i’ll give fencelines a more serious look. Anyone done or seen anything along a fenceline, theres plenty of them here.

I cannot thank you guys enough, I will probably get annoying in this post now that I have been out of school for awhile and have money to go and get some new stuff. Anyone else getting an uncontrolable itch to get into that stand?

    Thanks,

Just play it smart, because if done wrong, you will spook every deer away from you in the county. Many times, a doe doesn’t like a grunt and will scamper off. Also, once you grunt, they will key in on your position immediately. It is just a matter of catching a buck in rut, where his brain is malfunctioning. That is the buck you can rattle in or grunt in, right up to you!
