Ceiling Beneath Deck – Suggestions?

3 years ago we built a home with a walkout foundation and a 14 x 16′ covered deck with Trex and EZ Screen off the upstairs patio doors. We are now looking to finish the space a bit more beneath this on the walkout at ground level. I’ve got a stamped concrete pad going in today, but have to figure out some type of ceiling drainage system.

The ceiling will be about 12′ above the level of the concrete. It will never be perfectly dry given that height and no sidewalls, but the Mrs. wants a more finished look for the ceiling and something that obviously drains water strategically. Has anyone come across a decent product that’s easy to use/install? I see Trex sells a kit/product, There’s some “Zip-Up” system as well.

Since it’s covered above what about just finishing it with soffit??

That’s what I’m planning on doing for the same circumstance at our new house.

That’s what I’m planning on doing for the same circumstance at our new house.

That was my initial thought, but then I ran into 2 hurdles.

My first being that there’s a decent amount of snow/ice/rain and water that still gets in on the deck above despite it being covered. It’s tough to show but the sidewalls are all EZ screen making it basically open minus bugs. Because of that the lower ceiling has to be something that handles water and drains it uniformly(see pictures if they load).

My second hurdle is the FW thinks it should “match” her front porch and upper porch ceiling (see pictures), but I’ve tried to explain it’s not the same application and I can’t just hang nickel gap under a deck that lets water through like I could on the front porch that is protected by a full roof. It has to be some synthetic product with designated drainage.

My solution so far has been to drink beer whenever she brings up suggestions for it, but figured the IDO world would have a solid product.

Edit – It looks like the Trex product has some different finishes that could maybe do the trick if the FW approves. Thanks Supercat.

We had T&G cedar on our Porch ceiling. Looks nice and weatherproof too.

I have had good luck making a slope using green treated rips ( 1/8″/ ft grade is plenty good) and then covering with the menards pro rib roofing panels you can run into a gutter or just daylight depending how nice a finished look you are going for

sorry I misread you original post- with it already being covered Id just go w/ aluminum vented soffit- a little moisture will be no problem
