why is it so hard to find used outboards online? I am thinking of re powering next year but finding used motors with pictures is a pain. Outside of the East Bethel boat center, every other site is garbage. If anyone has a site that has nice inventory info and pix can you please post a link……TIA.

Especially if you’re talking USED larger outboards, say over 50 HP, I just don’t think there are that many of them on the market at any one time. Repowering is an expensive and time-consuming proposition and I think a lot of guys trade up the whole boat rather than just repowering.

What are you looking for? HP range, tiller or console, 4 storke, HPDI, or 2?

Thanks guys but yes I am looking for a 70 to 90 hp outboard not a tiller. Right now I have a super clean 06 alumacraft 16.5′ with a 99 75 horse 2 stroke merc. Would like to get a newer more reliable 4 stroke if I can get lucky? Otherwise may just go new?

    eyeguy507,
Something to consider is engine weight. Your 2006-era 2S (non-Opti) weighs about 306#, 4 Strokes can be heavier. Not all 16.5′ hulls have enough width at the transom to safely carry a lot more weight.

Thanks for the heads up! I thought it said in the manual that the boat is rated for a 90hp motor. I will do some more homework before I do anything.

Don’t get me wrong, it may very well have a 90hp rating, but today’s 4-strokes tend to carry a weight penalty compared to the 2-strokes of the past. Remember, your boat was rated for the outboards that existed at the time, not what might be available a decade later.

I’m sure you’ll be fine, just wanted you to be aware of the (possible) weight difference.

    Happy shopping!

How far do you want to go? I know a guy in rice mn that sells 60hp and up and is top notch.
