I don’t understand the salary cap issues much at all and especially in the playoffs. Bra-zslow shouldn’t be in the line up at all. Nyquist is donzo. Vinnie and Ohgren are way faster than either of those two statues. Could see the nerves on Zeev, but his offensive uptick could almost warrant putting him at forward on this team in this position, I know, unheard of.

Boldy was lights out the best player on either team on the ice last night.

    Hartman had a good game.

Spurgeon just isn’t built for playoff hockey at all.

Faber and Brodin seemed fine. Middleton was borderline ok.

Other than the one pass to Boldy KK’s passing just doesn’t work in the playoffs, especially against a team like Vegas. Foligno was a non factory. Trenin had a couple really good plays in the dzone. Freddy tries hard and was actually ok.

Hynes needs to get some speed injected into the lines and be done with the Brazeau and Nyquist. Don’t care what they traded to get them, get them out of the line up. I’d take my chances with Vinnie and Ohgren.

The only dman I’d put with Zeev is Brodin.

Gus wasn’t stellar but he was good enough to win. Can’t pin the game on him.

Vegas is a better, bigger, constantly consistent team. They don’t take stupid penalties, they are deep and yet can still be beaten.

Not sure what you do with Rossi currently? He doesn’t really fit in with any of the bottom 3 lines.

Not sure if KK will get a goal in this series. Will scratch out assists, but don’t see him being a goal factory against Vegas with the lack of space they are giving him.

Ek is the only net front guy we have and he isn’t able to take on the whole team in front of the net.

Congrats to Boldy and Hartman for good games. If the majority of the team doesn’t get off the wagon and start pulling or pushing this will be done in 4 or 5 games.

Thought the game was played pretty tight by both teams. Thought Zeev was a bit overwhelmed with the speed which is not surprising at all in his first game.
Man is it tough to get anything going between the dots against Vegas.
This team just lacks the depth that the big boys play with. One line is tough to beat Vegas.

Am I off base thinking it was a 50/50 game that was decided by 2:05 worth of special teams time? Seeing all the talk about how amazing Vegas is and the Wild can’t hang. Yeah Vegas is great, but the Wild hung right with them the entire game. Idk I’m looking forward to the rest of the series and think they have a real shot, maybe I’m just a naive homer. Best sign for the Wild is their best players are showing up. Kirill, Boldy, Ek, Faber, Gus all showed up. Faber had a couple obvious mistakes but overall he was a horse, fun to watch. Spurgeon wtf man, not even physical stuff – he got beat on rushes multiple times, 1 on 1s even. Playoff Hartman showed up, need him to score a big goal or two.

How about that liney getting straight up clotheslined. Fitting that Wrestlemania is in town shock

Don’t think you are off about that game being 50/50. The special teams and depth I think will win this series for Vegas. Wild have a chance just think it’s going to be tough. Which any series is.

Man, the NHL really sucks at scheduling. There were only 3 games yesterday… a SUNDAY… how do they put the game with the two of the top attendance’s in the league on at 10 PM central? I get they want to minimize game overlap but I don’t think the NHL has an audience like the NFL where the NFL fans watch every playoff game. I think the majority of NHL fans only tune in for their teams game and the NHL is missing out on lots of views with these atrocious game times.

I agree, they are not doing themselves any favors with these 10pm east coast start times.

100% agree. NBA the same way. Who wants to stay up that late on a work night. My girls love the Wolves but cant watch the playoffs cause them games end at midnight on a school night.

Nope, totally agree. I’ve been saying this for years about Spurgeon, he gets overpowered all the time, and it’s even more glaring in the playoffs. And as such he shouldn’t wear the C, give it to someone that isn’t a liability. Anyway, it should be a great series!

I picked the Wild in 6, but I just worry that we’ll start to lose guys to injury as the series progresses… Vegas finishes EVERY friggin check they can, that repeated beating will start to break down bodies…that and we still have too many players that just aren’t built for playoff hockey, does Billy really expect Jojo or Nyquist to win battles in front of the Vegas net against one of their giants? It ain’t happening…

Was a good game from the wild overall. The depth is a glaringly obvious issue. Hope I’m dead wrong and somehow the team can dig deep and a couple guys can get hot scoring goals, but didn’t think Vegas played their best hockey and could easily see this being done in 4. Could see the wild win a game, maybe 2, but Vegas would have to do a lot wrong and the wild would have to play perfect and Gus would have to stand utterly on his head. After watching this team all year they don’t play consistently night in and night out like Vegas is prone too. The lazy stick penalties might start coming into play for the wild as the series goes on and that could be a series killer. Will be super interesting to see what Hynes does from game to game with no real great pieces for the bottom two lines to find even a goal or two in this series.

Not sure I would agree that Spurs is a liability. Or that he should not wear the C because he gets overpowered at times.

his game lately has warranted the criticism as he just looks lackadaisical out there, but he’s also playing with basically 1 wing as Nyquist has been terrible…

He was basically saying the staff doesn’t trust him 5 on 5. They haven’t for over a month.

frustrating watching other teams powerplays and seeing their star players all have way more time with the puck vs Kaprizov ever does (take the MacKinnon goal just now, have you ever seen Kirill with that much time and space to walk in and shoot? never happens)…I get the personnel is different, but the speed that other teams PP groups move the puck around vs the Wild is night & day different… hopefully Buium will help improve that…

I can’t believe it’s literally a 10pm puck drop tonight. That is insane.

Crazy games last night. All four were one-goal games. Ovi OT game winner, big boy western conference physical battle in Winnipeg, back and forth OT game in Dallas, and a shootout in LA. As a fan of the NHL, the first round is always the best round.

Edmonton comes back from 4 down to tie it up at 5 (McDavid) and then what 40 seconds later the Kings score! Wild.

Someone needs to let ESPN know how CBS does the NCAA Tourney, and in the modern world we actually like flipping between channels and staggered finishes. At least far more than staying up until the middle of the night.

I don’t ever remember a 10 pm cst scheduled game before, not sure what the deal is tonight. The 3 other games, all on ESPN channels, are 5:00, 6:30, and 7:30

Agreed. Yeah, we had lots of 9PM starts before when on the West Coast, but I never remember 10PM before.

Exactly. A 9pm start is about 9:20 and an 8:30 scheduled start occurs after a previous game ends, which last night was 8:52pm for the Avalanche/Stars game.

Its just a big marketing scam, and the central time zone gets the short shaft every spring.

Absolutely, I just don’t get why they are in that 10 pm time slot tonight. ESPN2 would be open at 9 pm. Maybe something to do with the Twolves starting at 9 on their comopetition’s channel ??

I think its because the 5:00pm game channel then has the 7:30 game afterwards and the 6:30 game channel likely has a pre-show so game start time is closer to 7:00pm and the Wild game follows it after a short game 1 recap/pregame show?
