March Madness is what we anglers call it around here on the Rock River these days. The fishery has gotten so popular here it’s hard for the locals to find a place to launch and fish.
But if you get a chance to hit the water without the stress of launching your boat and all the boat traffic on the water you can have tons of fun catching lots of male walleyes making there spring run up the Rock River. Nothing big but lots of action to keep just about any kid happy like this picture of my daughter with this little walleye she horsed in. All are fish were caught in the channel about 10 to 12 fow and dragging your jigs with a vertical jig once in a while to make sure you were on the bottom. 3/8oz pink/white Zone-R’s Nuckle ball jigs by Fin-Tech Tackle Co produce better than any other jigs tipped with a shinner or large fathead minnow.
Saturday Stephanie and I caught about 10 small male eyes in 2 hours and one keeper for dinner for me. Then after the sweet food snacks ran out and she got bored with here dolls and toys and fishing she got cold and it was time to call it day.
On Sunday I got to get out with an in-depth sponsor and member the famous We Fish. It was another crazy day on the water. I wish I would of have took more picture’s of all the boats I saw but I was so busy saying wow around each bend I forgot. In all my life I have never seen so many anglers and boats on this river. Everyone was catching small male walleyes and having fun. The best way to catch these eyes was to fish the channel vertical jigging. Here’s We Fish with one of his first walleyes vertical jigging out of a boat this spring.
My first fish I caught Sunday was the only keeper of the day, go figure.
Pink/white was the best color this day and jig like always the Nuckle ball jig by Fin-Tech Tackle Co. Here’s a bad picture that We Fish took of my first keeper walleye Sunday. We Fish must have had to much coffee that day.
Remember there’s nothing better than the taking a kid fishing, well maybe there’s one thing better

Great post Jeff-and what makes it even better is that you take the time to take your little one with you. We need more dads like you.
Nice to see a open water report from you Jeff.Looks like your girl had a great time.

Great report and nice pics.
The Nuckle ball jigs armed with K grubs and Super Doos are proving to be a deadly combo on the Mississippi also Jeff.
Thanks for your time at the Madison show giving Mike C and myself tips on using the jigs
Bret
Well done Jeff,
Always like to see you fishing with your kids. Not only is it a blast to watch you out with them but watching your daughter and son bringing in fish is priceless. Very cool.
Also gotta love the Bratz hat and pink jacket. I think Z-man might pick up a couple this year to improve his catch this year on the rock.

Derek
Great report jeff love to see the kids out fishing
Thanks for the report BOLA , keep it up –
Hey, Jeff! If you think it’s hard for the locals to find clear launches and places to fish, imagine how difficult it is for the clueless tourists! Cut those guys some slack!
Thanks for the report and pics Jeff.
Spring is here and so are the fish and fishermen. Those pics sure make a guy anxious for the weekends.
Have you used the metalic jigs much yet?
Thanks, Bill
Great report Jeff. Nice to hear from you.
Thanks all, I thought this weekend was bad with boat traffic, today was worst, lots of anglers on vacation I guess.
Anglers throw some back for seed.
Nice report Jeff and great pics. Especially the one of your little crumb cruncher out there braving the weather to fish with dad. I think this makes it final for me. Time to finally buy a boat. Love2Fish.
Thanks for the report Jeff, my Dad and I came down the other day and fished with my son Jason and put in at the 26 overpass bridge , they were just putting in the peir when we got there. We had a graet day fishing lost track on the count of eyes and saugers we caught but probaly was between 50 and 60 eyes boated that day and there were a ton of boats out that day. We used jigs in green ,red and blue that day for most of the day color did not matter but at the end of the day blue with a cotton candy ringworm was hot with verticle jigging . We also used the split shot and red hook method was also very hot for the day just letting drag behind with enough weight to keep it up above the boat. We will be back again soon and be safe and good luck Jeff…

Howdy Jeff,
We had a great time on the water on Wednesday. The weatherman was WAY off on the forecast but all in all it was a great time. We caught alot of small ones and no keepers but just to be out again was great. Chris let me drive his Crestliner at the end of the day. What a “dream Boat”. That was probable a mistake cause now I want one!
We did see a guy on the upper river catch a 25 lb plus flathead cat. Took him about 15 minutes to get it in the boat.
The Zone R Knuckleball jigs worked great for us. It has got to be one of the beat jigs I’ve ever used for vertical jigging. We ended up using stingers as we had alot of “shorts”.
Chris and I are heading up to Nekoosa Monday for the Walleye Days tourney. You can bet we will be using them up there!
Always great to read your reports. Great job as always.
We’ll see you on the water Jeff! We will let you know how we do up north.
Take care, Keith
Good luck guys
Thanks again guys, hope to make it out Saturday with Diesel for a few hours, will add to the report if any luck.
Be honest now, I bet she caught them all…
At least that is the way it goes when there is a lady with me..
Great Report!!
Keep ’em coming Jeff. Good to see you are back on the open water.
I would never get my daughter in the boat before the mercury hits 60 degrees!
Way to go Jeff…Pink/White Zones ehh…I’ll have to quit grabbing the greens and reds all the time!
How is the new TWS rod working for ya!
Not as good as my hand crafted TWS but I love it.
