Fishing continues to be very consistent here in the angle. Both the Minnesota and Canadian sides of the border are putting out nice fish! This past weekend was a cold one but we still had several groups brave the cold windy conditions. There efforts were rewarded with limits of walleye to 21 inches and good numbers of perch to 13 inches. Don’t let the tough fishing on the south shore get you down-come on up!
On the Minnesota side action is good south of Oak island in 18 feet of water and on the Canadian side 22 feet of water will get you bit! Perch are starting to show up in better numbers and will continue to get better yet as the season progresses. Fish the walleye and perch with a two fisted approach of a jigging rod and a bobber rod. Run one rod with a spoon and minnow head the other rod soak a bobber and live minnow. Let the fish tell you what they want. Keep an eye open for high riders on the sonar, reel up to those good marks for better size walleye!
Yes the crappies are still biting! The bite has slowed but even that is still good fishing! Limits of crappie went home again this weekend. Same story, crappie jigs such as Lindy Fat Boys tipped with Gulp are turning them. The magic depths were 22 to 24 feet. This picture would make good wallpaper, crappie wallpaper!
The Angle is great place to come visit. You have the option of fishing Canada and Minnesota the same weekend. Conditions on the lake are great and the fishing has been a blessing. Take the highway up and around or ride your sleds across Big Traverse, you’ll be glad you did!
Nice report.
I’m so jealous. Looks like we may get a couple more days on the ice down here, but that’s probably it. Might have to try and get up there next year.
Awesome report

I see the walleyes are running a little small too!
Nice fish! Those photo’s could make me want to pack up and leave my favorite wife! Well, leave the honey do list at least.
Thanks for the report…even though it hurts a bit!
Man, I pumped for open water.
Thanks for the great report and who knows, perhaps The
“Lip Ripper” might make it to Flag Island this Summer
That definately looks like a good time! Do you get the crappies much in the summer time up there?
Forget the crappies in the summer!!!!!!
Not when there is potential chance of hooking a 13lb walleye just a few miles from this place!!!!!!!
Also, there are 55 inch muskies not to far either!!!!!!!!!!
Guys, I have spent a few summer fishing trips up here on Oak Island and the Angle Inlet.
Get on the big reefs in the summer with bottom bouncers and spinner rigs and it is MONGO walleye time!!!!
Also, it is not just quality either!!!!! 2 years ago up there, in later part of June, are fishing party got into two separate pods of male walleyes…..Post spawn.
We had 50 to 100 fish per boat in just a few hours of jigging!!!!!!! It was crazy!!!! Again, these were males, all ranging from 10 to 18 inches, but talk about ACTION!!!
The summer reef bottom bouncer bite is nothing short of phenomenal!!!!! I’m talking pulling a bottom bouncer with a 7′ mh stick in 25′ of water……..Set the hook and all you hear is drags screaming!!!!! BIG FISH ON!!!!!!!
Just south of Flag Is is Little Oak and the Garden Islands. These two areas have a reputation for producing BIG WALLEYES!!!! This is where the big charter boats out of the south end of the lake go to.
