Our goal for the day was to get our perch bite back on track. The last couple of outings have been hit or miss, but today it would turn out to be one that hit!
The first picture is one of the walleyes we’re getting through the night, a nice 24″+ taken on a rattle wheel and Fathead minnow in the permanent house before daybreak, a nice fat healthy fish. Most of the walleyes have been this size or bigger.
The morning started slow but the action picked up with the welcome sunlight and calm winds. Icing a few fish early out of the big house while eating breakfast, the action soon slowed and the boys went out and started drilling holes. They fished a half dozen spots around the house searching for a midday bite. With only a few keeper perch and a tulibee to show for the effort they came back into the big house for the late afternoon run.
Every afternoon we’ve fished this winter we’ve been picking up a few perch, with the occasional jumbo going in the bucket. Here are a couple of the nicer ones taken through the afternoon.
During the day we are still getting the occasional walleye and pout, but perch season is upon us with many tourneys over the next month. We ended the day with 16 fine keeper perch and 1 walleye. Pictured here is my nephew Joe with a fine eater walleye.
Jigging a minnow head on a Green/orange buckshot rattle bait worked early in the day for the boy’s, but my hot bait on the day was a Copper Swedish pimple tipped with waxies. Pounding the bait on the soft bottom then waiting for the fish on the Marcum to move up to the bait worked best today for me.
Next weekend is the Hunter’s Point Perch and Pout tourney, hope to see you there!
The boys caught me fishing hard saturday afternoon!
Or was that hardly fishing?
Great report Hooks! You look relaxed there
I am sure right after the boys snapped that picture they yelled “FISH ON” also
Nice report and pictures
Tim, by the looks of it, you sure were tired after pulling all them in!!! Way to go Joe !!!

Good report. Hope #2 is by your house. I got some tj to get rid of.
Putz, your house rental #2 is just south of Hooks house on the rental road about 1/4 of a mile…..it would be a little bit of a walk!! best drive over!!
That looks like an awesome way to fish at noon

Nice looking fish
That looks like too much fun! But.. if I was your son, everytime you snoozed off, I would yell, FISH ON!!!

Knowing Hooks he’d do it too.

Catch a few for the rest of us.
Thanks, Bill
Nice fishin hook. Looks like you were caught sleeping on the job.
Great report Hook! I am looking forward to this weekend! ElRoy is planning on working, so we can go on with our plans!
All you need in your pick of you snoozing is Kooty peeking in tripping the rattle wheel!
Ben…Get to school!
Very nice fish Hooks! I’d love to get up there for a weekend or a tourney yet this year. Got any info on the up and coming tourneys??
thanks, andy
Feb. 18th is the Hunters tourney. Feb. 25th is the Liberty Beach tourney and Mar. 11 is the Whitecap Inn Perch pounder.
I’m sure I probably missed one on the open weekend the beginning of March.
Hooks, it looks like you have some long weekends ahead of you! I might be stopping by on eof these weekends. Have a good one and good luck on the JUMBOS
Tuck, you coming? Check under your back seat before leaving.
Bob, 1/4 mile walk aint bad but crawling back could be tough.
No worry Putz, I’ll give ya a ride!
The weather forecast Josh just emailed doesn’t sound too welcome, 13 below saturday morning???
I’m really becoming a whuss in my older days!
or maybe just wiser?
Hopefully by midday we can stand to cook outside!

Tuck plans on making a pot of chili too!
Oooh Hooo! Chile. Look out mama.
Don’t worry, Hooks, if the schnapps don’t freeze, I won’t either.
