Hot bite at Cold Springs

Nobody was on the ICE at Cold Springs off of Hwy 35 north of Prairie du Chein this morning….but the few guys fishing open water at the launch next to the ice were hooking into gills on literally every cast.

Most were fishing a waxie on a 1/64 ounce jighead under a bobber. Same rig will work with Berkley power baits and Gulp. Just set the bobber at about 3 ft, pitch it out and set the hook!

Of course, most fish are small. You can keep about one out of four. But if you’re catching one a minute a limit takes about two hours.
Bite is slowing down on Shore slough, two miles north of Lansing. Yesterday was a hot bite. Today Cold Springs was easier. Only about four inches of ice, either place…and we sure ain’t makin’ any! Pretty hard to fall thru where yer fishin’ from shore!

  1. How deep is cold springs? There were guys with vex’s out there yesterday when we drove by. People were lined up on shore fishing the tiny bit of open water there was. Maybe 10 people ice fishing, and about 20 shore fishing

  2. Cold Springs not that deep–maybe six feet max. Best action is just out from the boat launch. This is where the springs are..and the water is open.
