What is the best site or way to gain info on WI ice fishing… Lakes, bites etc…

Also I see that from last years shows by IDO there is a website that shows lake surveys for MN is there something like that for WI. I want to explore some new lakes this winter and want to try to find as much info before I head out.

Google this: wisconsin dnr lake survey reports, then look at the top four in particular, although I did look further and there are a couple of other links that might be valuable to look at.

The Wisconsin DNR site has topo maps of most lakes, they are old but still pertinent. This is a good site, lots of guys from WI here, also Lake-Link.com and iceshanty.com.

What part of the state are you located in?

I use the Wisconsin DNR app or pocket ranger I believe is what they call it, and that has some good info on it. It’s fairly easy to use and it has all the season dates and special regs, for fishing and hunting.

Use Lake Link.com for the reports on ice conditions. As far as fishing reports, take every report on there with a grain of salt, some are very good reports and others are pretty vague

Lake Link has some good info but also a lot of false reports, pictures of fish caught on other lakes posted in multiple location threads claiming they were caught on that lake, and more bickering than all the “wives of” shows on TV. Unfortunately, it has a large following in wisconsin so it is worth checking. Don’t expect the same experience you get here over there though.

That other site is a site of comedy, lies, chest thumping, and guides soliciting for clients! It’s the craigslist personals of the fishing world! Much false ice info is given on that site causing many issues! To me it’s a source of amusement at this time! Leave the grain of salt and take it with a 5 gallon bucket of it! I know numerous others whom also feel as I do!

I use Lake Link for my particular lake. There is one guy that posts accurate reports. Like everything it is accurate as the person wants it to be. I also got some good info one time from the local DNR person. gave me good insite onto the body of water I fish. Like Mike, there is one guy who posts every weekend. I think he is pretty reliable. Mike where on Winnebago do you go out of?

Winnebago isn’t too kind to the casual ice angler. Unless you’re committed to learning the nuances of a really challenging bite, other waters might be better choices to explore.

I have only ice fished it once (I was very little). My Aunt and cousins live near VanDyne on the west side and fish regularly and year round.

LOL, Mike…. You’re going to have to narrow it down a little. I live next to the lake, report ice conditions and get scores of messages for updates. One of the reasons I rarely post over there anymore is the lack of sharing — lot’s of “give me” w/o reciprocation.

I’m a lake-link user, and I personally have had good luck with people posting good reports at least in the Stevens Point Area, I post accurately, maybe not the exact spot I was in but who can blame a guy for that. However I agree with the fact that a lot of people will ask questions but not repost to show how it turned out, so I usually get the inside scoop from the bait shop, or people I meet on the ice.

L/L and DNR sites will get you started. The WI guys here on IDO are great for filling in the gaps, especially if you have a specific lake or are in mind. Grain of salt and a good BS filter will come in handy on L/L…
If you’re ever headed to my area, PM me and I’ll do the best I can. Better yet, I’ll try to meet you out on the ice sometime(I could always use the extra excuse!)
