Finally purchased a couple of rattle wheels but not sure what is the best line to use for the main line. I will tie on the appropriate leader material for what ever species we are after.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

I just use a nylon tip-up line. Works great and doesn’t burn your hands when that Hog goes on a run.

Go heavier like 30# rather than thinner, much easier to handle and get knots out. Use a uni to uni knot or tiny swivel to attach your leader then.

Some guys really like the plastic/rubber type fly reel line, I have not used it myself yet.

Not a bad idea to mix colors, its easier to get the knots out with a visual reference when a fish gets caught up in your lines.

I use fly line. I was recently converted from tip up line on my rattle reels to this. I can’t tell you how nice this stuff is. My boy is 3 years old and hasn’t had a tangle yet. It doesn’t kink and it’s very pliable even in the cold. I tie a split ring on the end that way I can snap any size mono leader I want onto the end.

I tried some cheap fly line years ago and it kinked bad. The stuff I have now is actual fly line “ends”. It was only $3 for 50′. Stuff is just amazing. If you can’t find the “ends” I’d recommend just buying a full spool and cut it. It’s a bit pricy but worth it.
