I have decided to go the drill conversion route for an electric auger for the new wheel house and now looking for input on which bit to get. I have heard good and bad about both. Main use will be in the wheel house. I have a gas auger for when we use the portable.

I would go with a K-drill. Lighter and almost just as fast. You WILL have trouble popping old holes with a Nils bit. Plus blades are half the price to replace with the K-drill. I love my Nils, but I can admit they are not the best at all applications, wheelhouses being the main one…

the K-drill does re-open holes without any issues?

That I can’t answer. But I can tell you there is no possible way it re-opens any worse than a Nils. Immediately after opening a hole with a Nils, I feel morally obligated to give my dentist a call so he can check on my fillings…

The kdrill is marketed as a chipper type blade that is good for opening old holes. If you can go ahead and make 8″ of ice on a local lake I will be happy to unbox my new one and test it out…

Used the kdrill in my castle all season and it’s very good at redrilling holes and even drilling multiple holes to make one large one. Solid buy and super lite.

2nd year with an 8” kdrill. First was on a Strikemaster gas head and was insanely fast either virgin ice or reopens. I had a Big Volt in the ice house. 2nd year I bought a Ion and along with an adapter shaft mounted the kdrill. Works great and with 2 batteries can go all weekend. The Strikemaster gas head and Big Volt are collecting dust.
