Which bite do you guys prefer, the morning or evening? Obviously 90% of the time its which one CAN you fish but if you had a choice which would it be?

I like the early morning bite, for a few reasons. First off, i feel fishing is generally a little better, the fish have had a break overnight and havent had pressure for 6 plus hours. Secondly, come evening, there seems to be alot more anglers on the water, and especially where i fish, the walleyes in 5 to 8 feet of water get spooked pretty easily.

Do you guys notice a difference between morning and evening? It would be nice to stay on the ice all day long, but the world isnt designed how i would like it

Morning bite. That leaves the evening open for fish fry and beer in a warm house.

exactly pat, its so cool to be one of a few out on the ice when its extremly quiet, and your in the darkness and and then having that sun come up. Is morning everything for me that i like best, deer hunting, open water fishing, etc.

For me anytime is a good time, but if I had to pick I’ll choose morning. I hate fishing a spot in the evening where “they should come through right at sunset.” So what if they come through 50 yards away? Should I be drilling more holes right over them at “primetime”? I would rather set up in a key location in the morning and then move as the day goes on.

When I was in college, I fished a heavily pressured lake for crappies quite often. Almost everyone fished the evening bite on the weed edges surrounding the deep hole. The fish were more spread out and fishing was usually spotty. Instead I started fishing them during the day suspended over the deep water and did way better than I ever did after dark. When I did make it there early in the morning, I could usually get 10 keepers in an hour. There is another lake not too far from home, that goes crazy at sunrise and then the bite slows down considerably after.

Most are saying morning and I agree. Something about watching for that first little critter to make a break for it across the ice trying to get home without the shadow of death coming in overhead

But if the question was morning or afternoon, I might pick afternoon. For sure if there is some snow cover. Deep water on pool 8 holds some nice perch. With snow and limited light penetration the bite sometimes starts when people pick up to leave

AM for Crappie and PM for Gills & Perch.

Eyes engineered to feed in low light conditions are even more astute after a 12 to 14 hour period of complete blackness.

AM for crappies and gills and evening for walleye.

Evenings seem to be way more productive for walleye on the lakes I fish.
