Check out the rig these guys are using. Would something like this be legal in Minnesota under the new rule making? My suspicion in that the configuration is too long to qualify, but you might be able to do a shorter version.

I would assume you could use the setup with two hooks but it would count as your two lines so you could only use one rod. Im sure someone will prove me wrong though…

That was the answer I got when I called the DNR – 2 hooks on 1 line fine in winter as long as you only fish 1 hole

There are new regulations out this year that states anglers are allowed to use 3 hooks on one line used as a single tackle configuration. What I was told by our local DNR warden was that the umbrella configuration under the new regs could be used as long as the rig is no longer than 9″. He said that if you are using the tradition umbrella rig that has 5 spots available for baits that you would need to have blades or something to that effect on 2 of the 5 to be legal in Minnesota. He did state though that it is a very grey area yet. Hope that is as clear as mud the new reg can be found in the 2012 regs on page 9.

    From the Minnesota Reg Book.

    Hooks, Lures and Tackle Configurations
Single Tackle Configuration. Anglers may use up to three single or multiplepronged
(example – treble) hooks on a line used as a single tackle configuration
attached to the end of a fishing line (Examples – crawler harness, quick-strike
rig. See pictures on page 63). Note: a single tackle configuration cannot be
used on designated trout streams and lakes.
    – The total length of the single tackle configuration from the first hook to the
last hook must be nine inches or less.
    – Anglers may use live, artificial, preserved, or dead bait that is lawful to use
    (see page 12).
    – This single tackle configuration is not considered an artificial fly or lure/
bait, and no additional hooks may be used. Adding a bead, blade, or
spinner does not make it into an artificial lure/bait.

The Picture shows 3 Treble hooks – Not Lures. I’m not totally sure of the intent of this rule – Looks like another Grey area to me.

I contacted the DNR office and they did confirm that you can use up to 3 LURES on 1 line as long as the distance from the 1st lure to the last one is no more than 9 Inches – The exception is it is not allowed on Trout Streams
