Never too early to think ice…. by the way.

Chainsaw, large folding saw, other? Growing up North, the chainsaw was standard. What do you use out of curiosity?

    Pros? Cons?

Chain saw or chisel back when I speared. Chain saw was preferred.

A chainsaw seems to be the popular method up in this neck of the woods. With that being said I’ve got an antique Ice Saw hanging in the cabin just begging to get back in the game.

Here’s a link to a modern version of the “Old School” Ice saws if you don’t want to fire up the gas powered chainsaw!!

If there’s nuthin in the kitchen drawer to shave or crush it with, sometimes will just leave in bag and whack it on the counter till the plastic starts breaking. Timing can be a critical issue here. Be sure not to shake the container too much.

I chainsaw the 2 by 4 foot hole into 3 pieces of ice and use a ice claw to remove the big chunks of ice.
