Ice is leaving the lakes around the metro real fast right now. Calhoun and Harriet both had open areas on the north side. Think it was Diamond lake that was completely open. Guessing in the next few days many area lake will be mostly ice free.

I live across the street from Diamond Lake and it went out yesterday. Nokomis has a big area open and the shoreline is open on most of the lake. It’s time!

I was going to go to Chamberlain this weekend but with the forecast for Sunday out there I think I will go to Traverse.
It’s a shallow lake. 14’ max depth. Lots of rock.March 17, 2025 at 6:57 pm #2324574Here is a picture of Traverse over on the SD border from today.

I couldn’t tell you. Growing up and in my 20’s Traverse and Big Stone closed and opened the last weekend in April. Now that it’s open year round I haven’t fished it any earlier.
It’s probably been over 20 years since I have fished Traverse.
I will let you know how we do.March 17, 2025 at 9:08 pm #2324606Meanwhile in northern Minnesota.

i was up about an hour north of Remer a week ago, by bowstring and had 23 inches at that time. good solid ice. but i would start to think about getting on lakes on the south ends with the sun beating them up!!!!
March 18, 2025 at 9:13 am #2324687Moore Lake in Fridley was wide open yesterday
Noticed that this morning. Ham Lake was still holding ice with just a little melted near shore and the dock.
