Well, the better half decided to do some kissing and asked if I wanted to take a day trip to go fishing on the Mississippi . This coming from a man who 1, is not in love with the River as I am, and 2, who is not fond of fishing (he is a computer geek) . So off we went, and boy, did we have some fun. First stop was to shore fish by Lock and Dam 8. Caught some killer blue gills and a few sheepshead (a guy we met there told us that if you put them on ice right away, they are good eating if fried right – is this true?). Then we moved on to Cold Springs where I had such good luck with the gills back in June – Not one fish to be had . Then we moved on to Gordons Bay. Had some better luck with fishing – a few nice gills and a really nice bass (which as released). Met a really nice guy willing to share the fishing pier and some of his secrets – even learned how to river rig. So all in all – it was an awesome day.
Was really impressed with how much the water went down.
Plan is to go back in 2 to 3 more weeks…….

You know Carpgirl…the world would be a better place if we all did that once in a while.

For a receipe for sheephead…. send Stillakid2 a pm. I hear he has a secret receipe for them. He doesn’t like to post it because he’s worried about the sheepie population…I guess.

Glad to hear you got out!

Well, yes in a way, but maybe if you (he) just do something nice like that just because they love you, it would mean more…..
I have to say, I was really shocked because of the fact that the River is only once a year vacation (due to money and he work hours (he would be at his store 24/7 if I let him). Never thought of seeing it again until next year. I sure would move there in a heart beat!!!

I have a great sheephead recipe! Filet them, then stuff a coot with the filets, nail the coot to an oak board and roast in a dutch oven outdoors. When done, feed the coot and sheephead to the racoons and eat the oak board!
