This wolf was shot during deer hunting season between Marathon city and Merrill, according to the hunter he took this Alpha male out of 6 in the pack. It wieghed in at 165#, as he was climbing out of his stand to check out the wolf the buck came up and he bagged it also. Pretty darn cool double bag PS – I recieved this from a co worker and have no idea who the guy is….

Not sure if I believe 165 (I have a 145lb great dane who looks bigger), but sweet photos and a great tale!

For the Game of Thrones fans, that was John Snow’s Direwolf!

No, Jon’s wolf is named Ghost because it’s pure white.

I was thinking the same thing. But, I believe the muscle mass on a wolf would be a lot greater than any house dog. I have read that wolves travel up to 50 miles a day searching out their next meal. That and the guy holding it doesn’t look like a small guy.

Great pic’s and story. One of those days when all the stars aligned for him.

True, but that wolf also has a ton more fur than my dane, making it appear larger. I’m a pretty good-sized fella, and I cannot get my arms around my dog’s chest.

    Regardless, still a good take!

That’s going to be a pretty hefty taxidermist bill. Lol

You are correct. I didn’t factor in his winter fur jacket.

After a quick google search I am more inclined to agree with you. The average weight of a grey wolf is 95-99 pounds and the world record is 175 pounds. I’m guessing someone might have had a foot on the scale.

Here’s a picture that I ran across. This one is huge!

That is a Canuck wolf. A giant though.
