Non-important random question – why is it only allowed in MN to have doors that swing out?

I think they all do, but why? It is this very clear line in the regs that stands out as odd, but I can’t find anything as to why.

I would guess it’s an old law from back in the days the CO’s could walk right in after a quick announcement. I’m sure they experienced people stacking things in front of the door to buy themselves some extra time to pull up an extra line, ect… With the door opening to the outside that would’ve never happen.

It’s a moot point now though after the court ruling saying they have to ask permission to come in and you can deny them or stall them.

without any background except unfounded speculation, what about emergency exit reasons? Fire code? Something along those lines?

Most external doors open outwards, must be a theme for a reason.

I’m pretty sure that it used to explain in the regs that it was in case of fire. You have a small, confined space, and back before the average fishhouse got supersized, you had lots of small skid houses where one guy had to sit in front of the door. You also had lots of guys heating houses with little wood stoves or with oil burners.

So something catches on fire, a guy is blocking the door from swinging in, bad deal.

If anyone has the regs from the 1970s, I’m pretty sure it used to explain this.

So your saying if you sell meth out of your fish house the door needs to open outwards? But if you live in the fish house the doors can open inward? wink
