The Cold-Snap parka and bibs by Vexilar was designed by Vexilar staff
who know exactly how winter gear should perform on ice. Warmth,
durability, comfort, and functionality is that the modern ice fisherman
demands. This very special “Cold Snap” garment and bibbed pant
combination were designed as the ultimate garment for the ultimate ice

The jacket sleeves have a comfortable inside storm cuff with the
addition of an adjustable Velcro closure on the outer shell cuff. The
Cold Snap Parka has a total of 14 pockets to keep your gear with-in your
reach. A custom designed over-sized hood comes with easy access clinch
    cords.

Vexilar’s Cold-Snap Bibs use a wind and water resistant 300D polyester
shell lined with polyester taffeta. It also has reinforced padded knees
with two large side cargo pockets.
Extra wide adjust straps with large buckle snaps will ensure a
comfortable fit. Easy boot access with extra-long side zipper, and a
heavy-duty Velcro flap on the bottom of the bibs will help keep ice and
snow out. Available in sizes Small to 4XL.

Is this water proof or just water resistant?

The knees are waterproof. In order for a product to be considered 100% waterproof, it must meet Coast Guard regs for allowable leakage. The suit is very warm and dry.

    I’m a bit confused.

Why would the Coast Guard be involved with rain gear?

    Is there flotation in it?

    USCG CFR-46
USCG CFR-46 refers to the Coast Guard definition for waterproof, this is not a Coast Guard requirement.

The Coast Guard definition is found in 46 CFR 110.15-1(b)19, which states that a “Waterproof machine means a totally enclosed machine so constructed that a stream of water from a hose with a nozzle one inch in diameter that delivers at least 65 gallons per minute can be played on the machine from any direction from a distance of about 10 feet for a period of not less than 5 minutes without leakage…”. A similar description applied to watertight.

This applies mainly to radios, sonar and electronics and gear. If a company states thier product is 100% waterproof, the CFR-46 guideline is usually followed. And the product needs to meet these specs and better not leak. The Cold Snap suit is marked as weather proof for this reason. In order to be considered waterproof, higher priced materials and taping would need to be implimented which would drive the cost up.

You list $178 for the set, but that is for only certain sizes right? Because on that link they have different prices, or is it $178 as a special at this time regardless of what size?

I’ve seen and worn these and they are very nice. They are a lot better than the “blue tent suits” IMHO. Strikemaster is also coming out with a winter collection too.
