Compound Miter Cut on a 6X6?

I need to make some compound cuts (7 degree x 7 degree) on some 6×6’s.

I only have a 10″ miter saw and haven’t tried it yet. It might get me close enough if I roll the timber, but I’ll have to reset angles for each roll.

Would I be better off just using a circular saw set at an angle?

Set the miter saw to your angles and cut as far through as possible. Then using the kerf you just cut as a guide cut the rest of the way with handsaw or sawzall.

+2. Sawzall and a stiff 12-inch wood blade works great.

Depends, what type of material and how tight do you want your mitres?

    Thanks the advice guys.

I ended up going with a slightly different design that didn’t require a compound cut, just a single angle cut on each end.

My miter saw worked just fine, I had to finish just a tiny amount by hand. They were rough sawn timbers (I was thinking they’d be true 6″, but they were the same as a standard timber)
