    I think the boats on swamp people are registered as commercial boats for similar reasons. You can set the capacity then and little or no flotation.

    so was I correct in my thinking? the law states either or right? if my boat says 6 people or 800lbs and I have 7 people but 600lbs in the boat I am in violation correct?

    Also keep in mind if you’re on the border waters you may not get the MN fine but rather the WI fine depending on what side of the river your on.
    Fines differ considerably as I found out for being in a restricted area depending.

    BTW, when I bought my boat the weight and occupant load rating sticker was just that, a sticker. It faded and peeled off years ago.

    Lol…mine came off after 1 day under the hot wind of a blow-dryer.

    When I guided canoe trips we’d put everyone through some swamp, exit, and reload training before the start of the week. It happens, especially in small boats – and with river current it happens faster and is much harder to deal with safely. No reason to add risk by overloading a small boat.
