We will get out at some point this weekend. Won’t be this week, working 12s in Duluth so I don’t get home till later. Took my week off last week for fishing. But I wouldn’t take much time off to kill these birds any ways. Otherwise my son is very excited to try and stick a bird with his bow. I don’t get to exilerated over turkey hunting but it is a good way to get the bow back in the woods and do a little early season deer scouting

Found a handful of roost trees but you couldnt pay me enough to get covered in ticks for a turkey. jester good luck to those that do!

Going this weekend with my son. Private land so hopefully the birds aren’t affected by starting a few days late.

Think I am going to wait till B season, too busy this week and weekend. You have to spray down all your clothing with Permethrin if you want to have a chance of not being covered in ticks. Good luck to those headed out in season A

FYI – there were a stupid amount of turkeys out in the golf coarse at Michigan City, IN yesterday. Just in case someone didn’t have time to scout jester

I’ll be out tomorrow evening if im able. Otherwise I have the rest of the week off for it. Don’t scout ahead of time, but I don’t see many people hunting the public areas where I do the first week so the turkeys are either there or they won’t be. Even if I scouted and didn’t see them I’d still go just to get into the woods. As thick as they’ve been this year I’m not too worried about not seeing any.

I saw about 3 flocks and 100+ turkeys yesterday, plus a few stragglers here and there. Should be a target rich environment for you guys!

I will be going out with a buddy bright and early tomorrow morning. Going to try to get him one with his crossbow. Going to be pretty windy but it’s always windy down here amongst the wind towers. At least it will be pretty warm and not a foot of snow.

The areas I hunt I usually see piles of them this year not squat. Did see a few hens and toms on camera at my dads last time I checked. Gonna go by Victoria in the morning. Usually all over that land. Havent seen any but only been up by the old farm house. Did hear a couple gobbles there Sunday morning so we shall see.

Do cross bow hunters get the full season like bow hunters ? One would hope not, they should get 1 week like shotgun guys.

Depends if they buy a firearm or archery license. You can use a crossbow with either license and would be held to the season of that license.

Frankly I don’t mind. Might as well give the whole season to firearm hunters as well. I don’t think you’d see crowding in areas and the population seems like it could handle greater hunter success.

    I’m gonna hunt season B.

Thursday looks a little wet. Like thunderstorm type wet.

Crossbows can be used during the entire archery season now, just like in the fall hunting deer.

Good luck out there tomorrow for season A. Gobble gobble

Why would you hope not? Bow hunting is bow hunting just like most other states, Minnesota just held out a little longer that’s all. No different than muzzle loader technology or the new fancy high powered rifles. Times are changing and so are the sports. Good luck to everyone that ventures out. It would be cool to kill one with a bow.

Turkey hunting is a lot more fun than deer hunting because you get to interact with the birds. And hearing a buck snort is cool, but nothing like a turkey gobble.

Nothing says spring like a thunderous gobble from a roosted tom that echoes across the countryside at dawn.

Drove across Wisconsin yesterday and saw a lot of birds. Quite a few were fanned out.

    I’ll bite….

Because cross bows aren’t the same. You don’t have the motion prior to the arrow releasing. And don’t come back with the recurve vs compound tech argument. It’s flat out a different style. Your other analogies are irreverent.

Dang it. Should have just left this alone. Sorry.

The boy will be out Friday though Monday. Me just this weekend. I will be trying to stick one with an arrow this year so I can have a longer season.
We have not seen many birds this spring at all.

Good luck this morning. I will be hunting after work this week and then taking out a new hunter Saturday morning.

One of the best parts of the year is turkey season.Turkey gobbling and elk bugle are always a rush.

I’m not trying to argue or be a ass, but in my opinion cross bows are for the old or people who are limited due to health and injuries. A cross bow is more like a rifle then a bow. It’s a preloaded piece of equipment that you click the saftey off and pull the trigger. Very little room for error. A bow and a xbow are not the same. But again, if it’s legal it’s legal, I just find it lame. Especially for a young healthy guy, but again that only my opinion

I generally agree with Bearcats assessment on the xbows. For a long time, you needed a disabity permit to use one during “archery” season. Most states have moved to allow this now, for both turkey and deer, so it was only a matter of time.

I dont archery hunt so it doesnt really affect me. I’ve got a couple of dedicated compound archery hunter friends and they hate this rule, for both deer and turkey. The DNR likes it because it adds participants to the season, which generates more license sales, which generates more revenue.

I think bearcat is spot on with his crossbow example. Too much like a firearm for able bodied hunters.

My son has been out scouting and is going to try to get out after school or Friday since they don’t have school. If I get to go it will be B week for sure. I was told him and the girlfriend need to get their birds first rotflol which is fine with me since it’s her family’s land and I’m only going to spend time with my son as I am not a turkey hunter.

A couple mentions of ticks and I can confirm that they were out in Aitkin county on Friday. Stopped near a clear cut along a gravel road. Walked up a grassy hill and hit the call couple times. Nothing. Hopped in the truck and happened to look down at my legs and had several crawling around!! chased Hate them things!
