The best Rossi trade ideas i’ve heard sofar:
    1) Rossi to the Flyers for Owen Tippett and either their #25 or #26 overall 2025 draft pick
    or
    2) Rossi to Vancouver for Jonathan Lekkerimaki or Tom Willander and the #15 overall draft pick…

The idea that we could trade Rossi for another more polished center (like the Dylan Larkin rumors) is hilarious to me…

Why trade Rossi for a lesser player and and a late pick if you are trying to improve. I guess why draft him in the first place. Has he not turned into what he was projected to be at this point. It’s not as if he was going to turn into a 6 foot 3 200lb center.

Don’t see how those trades improve the club from this season.
    Just me I guess.

I agree Rip. Trading him just to trade him makes no sense. Those trades dont impress me at all. If they are hell bent on trading him then I’d rather see them use him and other pieces to really upgrade.

Tippet is a hell of a player with 7 years left locked in at $6aav

I’m not crazy about the Vancouver trade because we’re pretty set at D and Willander is Vancouver’s best prospect to include…Lekkerimaki is a good RH goal scorer, but he’s on the smallish side and Billy wants to get bigger…

My point is that any Rossi trade is probably going to be for a Wing as the main return piece, what does a team gain sending us a good center back? I don’t understand the need to trade him either, but it seems Billy is dead set on doing it…

I don’t think anybody thinks Rossi gets you a better center in return without including other pieces but if you are moving him for lesser players why not just sign him short term for the same money.
If Tippet is a hell of a player then Rossi is a damn near All Star.
25th pick does nothing for me as it is like buying a lottery ticket at 25.
Certainly makes sense for Philly however.

Vancouver trade is worse than the flyers trade IMO.
They most likely have 3-5 roookies playing on the big club next year. I don’t think BG wants more of them or more prospects.

I just think if you are going to trade Rossi their biggest trade-able asset he needs to be part of a package that improves a spot in the top 6 and not just a wash or less for What Rossi does.

Pretty crazy that the Islanders won the NHL lottery with a 3% chance and then last night the Dallas Mavericks won the NBA lottery with a 1.6% chance…

Almost seems too impossible to believe….

to fellow The Athletic subscribers, make sure to login and check your subscription status and monthly fee, they are known for not telling you when your special rates expire and then automatically start billing you $12 a month… I cancelled my subscription and then it immediately pops up an offer for $2 a month for 1 year to stay subscribed…

Good reminder Joe! Mine renews in February and I did the same thing just prior. If you go to the website you are able to see your account and when it renews by looking at each payment.

I’ll have to check that on my Athletic Subscription. I’ve been debating about canceling it but if I can get it for 2 bucks month ill keep it.

If you cancel the subscription, it really just turns off auto-renew. You still have access for however long you paid through. I always pay for the year and then “cancel” right away.

Joe Smith put out a good article on Jesper Wallstedt today on his struggles this past season

No it’s not just you. This has been my problem since Rossi trade rumors first emerged.

There has never been any clear statement of just what Guerin’s problem is with Rossi. Like what does he do or not do that makes Guerin so desperate to get rid of him?

So as I’ve said before here you’ve got a guy that’s in the team’s top five in terms of goal production and somehow were desperate to get rid of him. And the hilarious thing to me is everything that gets mentioned represents a backslide on goal production for a team that’s perennially goal starved.

The answer is obvious. Guerin has some kind of mental problem with Rossi that he can’t get past. Not sure if it’s one of those old school hockey tough guy issues where he sees European players as “soft” or whatever. He just decided that Rossi is not his guy and his production doesn’t matter.

It’s just a total mystery to me where Guerin thinks the goals are going to come from.

I am certainly not BG, but my take on Rossi is that in order for him to play to his potential he has to be in a top 6 role. Problem for him is that Yurov is coming and he appears to have a higher ceiling so I believe they would want to put him in the top 6 bumping Rossi down the lineup where it doesnt appear he is suited real well. Who knows. Maybe Yurov wont be any good, we will have traded Rossi for a used bag of pucks and be set back and lose KK97 in the process.

I can see the flaws in Rossi’s game that have been speculated as to why GMBG would be willing to move him (its all speculation, no GM will ever publicly say why they don’t like a player) what’s funny is that these flaws aren’t unique to Marco other than his lack of size (and yet they still drafted him)…I think the issue is GMBG doesn’t want to pay $7+ aav for somebody with those flaws vs $1-2 million more AAV for somebody who has fewer of them and could possibly make a bigger impact?

Let’s not judge until there’s actual moves that happen, maybe he has an ace up his sleeve (you gotta think he does if he’s willing to shop Marco) and we’ll all be stoked this summer…

Yeah, it’s that “appears” part that worries me. The Guerin organization seems to really struggle with developing young players. Add to that the fact that Guerin has handed out lots of term to 3-4 line players that have struggled with productivity and it’s hardly a surprise that putting a player like Rossi on L3 and 4 makes it difficult for him to score.

Joe Smith put out a good article on Jesper Wallstedt today on his struggles this past season

Another Guerin first-round pick struggling to develop. There seems to be a theme here…

Also, I pointed out at the beginning of last season that despite it appearing that the Wild were overstocked with goaltenders, this position is a real ? for the Wild, and now it has changed to a huge issue. We were going to get a look at the future with Guerin’s promised 3-goalie rotation last season, but that never actually occurred.

Wallstedt is basically back to square 1. So the Wild have to be shopping hard for a #2 netminder as well as signing KK to an extension, and a long, long list of other needs.

Billy Boy better get on his horse. He needs to make some major signings in FA or it’s not GMBG, it’s bye bye BG.
