The Wild outperformed my expectations in the series, but that didn’t change the outcome. We ought to call this a Billy G Playoff Run. Drag ass into R1, win a key road game to just blip the throttle on the fan’s hope. Then lose 2 in a row at home to crash out.

The good news. Gus was awesome, first and foremost. Also, the Wild did not get manhandled in this series as they did in the past. They are so much more physically able to compete.

And some secondary scoring came alive. Hartman basically saved his career with an excellent performance. Jojo and Foligno were solid as well.

The Wild jammed up Vegas in the neutral zone on the PK very effectively. Without this, we’d have had a PK disaster on our hands.

And we didn’t suffer any key injuries. Is the Wilds medical staff back on track?

The bad news. The Wild continue to make average goalies look great at key times.

There’s nothing that can be done about it, but the Wild are again plagued by no-calls as the NHL refs are again allowed to use a different rulebook in the playoffs.

Spurgeon is showing his age and now his size disadvantage is really showing as well.

And finally, the good/bad news combo deal. The Billy G Excuses Era is over. Eff your 5 year plan Billy Boy. You’ve got a year and the clock is ticking. Sign KK and pull off some major FA acquisitions or it’s bye bye Billy.

What a DISASTER for Joe Sakic and Colorado!! Rantanen with the hat trick (4 points all in the 3rd period!!) and one of the guys they got back in the trade takes a terrible penalty that leads to the game winning goal… I love it..

Brock Nelson was invisible all game, 38% on faceoffs for the game (40% for the series) Please Billy avoid him like the plague!

Now I hope Dallas gets swept in the next round )

Want absolutely nothing to do with Brock Nelson. But he’d be a great fit for the type of player BG likes.

Rantanen’s 3rd period last night was incredible. He put the whole Dallas team on his back except Ottenger and won that series in the 3rd period. No excuses. His puck control was unbelievable. No stupid no look passes to no one or turnovers. He got a hat trick and an assist for a 4 point 3rd period in a game 7.

Not a Dallas fan at all, but that was impressive what they did to the avs.

Getting rid of Rantanen is not going to age well for the avs.

    Nothing to disagree with there!

Except the Spurgeon take. He played very well this series. 22 minutes of ice time had a goal and lead the team in plus minus.

Spurgeon and Brodin surprised me with the energy they had in the playoff series, but how much of that was them missing 16 & 32 regular season games? Even Hartman had more energy in the playoffs but how much of that was missing 8 games due to suspension with a month or so left in the season?

I agree that some of their injuries were just unlucky, but the facts are they’ve missed alot of the the past few seasons and are only getting older…

Russo made a point in his last podcast that their trade protections are mostly gone next season (Spurgeon has a 10 team no trade clause, Brodin has none) and the Wild need to take a close look at how both fit with the team and if they attempt to move one of them, the best player ability to have is availability… I would trade Spurgeon and slap the C on Kirill if he re-signs, give Ekker his A, no contract is unmovable….

My biggest positive takeaways from the season are GusBus finding his top game again, Kirill’s rabid start and finish Rossi hitting another big development step and Boldy taking the next step towards superstardom…

Or maybe they played well because they were actually healthy in the playoffs. I know that may be hard to fathom.
I doubt either get traded this summer. Frankly trading Brodie would be foolish. It’s not as if Iowa has D men pushing for spots on the big club. I mean those I highly ranked prospect rankings from a few years back and they had to draft a D and trade a first round pick for another this year.
I think they have plenty of needs up front that they need to be worried about first.

Kirill talked about this summer’s extension negotiations:

“This is my agent’s job (to) talk with (general manager Bill Guerin), but we will see,” he said during his exit interview Sunday. “I love everything here. But should be all good.”

Zuccy was my favorite, when asked about how he felt about his year he said “the only hiccup was when Faber shot me in the balls” lol

Holy whiteout Jets fans. The Blues score with 34 left in P2 to extend the lead.

Winnipeg Country Club keeping a reservation agent on duty late. There could be a rush on tee times.

Trading Brodin would be insane. Trading Spurgeon wouldn’t get much.

Jets score 2 in last 3 minutes with goalie pulled including the tying goal with 1.6 seconds left to force OT. Wow.

Anyone else get thrown off that they are having a white out in Winnipeg but then Winnipeg is wearing their home blues?

And then there are the fans, who know white outs happen all the time, wear the blues.
