Epic Early Ice Bite on Mille Lacs

Last weekend I was able to sneak up to Mille Lacs for a couple days with good friends Michael Flandrick and Brian Morris.  To say that fishing was good would be an understatement as we hit a half dozen spots and found multiple fish ready for their quick photo opportunity in each place we stopped. However, we were not able to make it to any mid-lake areas due to poor ice conditions further out in the lake so be VERY careful traveling off-road and as always check with local resorts before venturing out.

Aggressive tactics such as the VMC Rattle spoons and Rapala Rippin Raps and Jigging Raps shined during peak bite windows and the old trusty set lines, tip ups and Ifishpro Tip Ups kept us busy during lulls in the jigging action.

This trip was also my first chance to fish with the new Otter Outdoors X-Over sidedoor houses and I’m a huge fan already.

In summary I’d say the best way to sum up the bite on Mille Lacs this year is to steal a phrase all that all the kids are using these days… It’s going to be EPIC!
