Rochester Slam Fest 12-7-08!!

What a difference a day makes. We started out by hunting a different field than with the IDO group. We put out close to 40 dozen decoys and waited. The weather was totally different than the prior day. Cold and I mean cold temps. -2 and light wind greeted us when we arrived at the field. We saw several flocks of duck and filnally a pair os geese. Then nothing for a while.

46 geese and happy hunters!

46 geese and happy hunters!

At around 9:20, Mike called and said there group had 12 on the ground and the birds just started coming so be ready to switch fields. At 9:30, Mike called and said “Get here NOW!” We loaded everyone up and drove up to the other field. By the time we got there, they had shot there limit.

From the time we entered the field drive, drove to the pits, got all of our gear and settled in, shot our limit of geese, it only took 36 minutes!!!!!

The birds just kept coming and coming. We could not believe how fast we shot a limit. We did not even have time to get out and retrieve the geese! Finally we just had to take a time out to retrieve and count the geese. We and the other group shot 46 birds out of there in about 1 1/2 hours! We brought a third group in and they even shot there limit.

When we went back to our first field to pick up decoys, we had a single and another group of 5 that landed while having the trucks and trailer in the field and guys picking up the decoys. All and all, what a great day!

Like I have said before. If you want to goose hunt, GET DOWN HERE NOW!! There are new birds coming in daily and boy are they cooperating!

  1. Hey Tim, I am supposed to ask you if you have seen which little guy in town is in the lead for the Big Goose Contest at Coyote Creek? He said that is the true test for a good goose hunter.
