Pool 10 Mississippi River Ice Fishing 12/29/03

This is going to be a very short fish report. As of 12/29/03 the rain yesterday took a lot of ice away from the areas with current.Any logs, lily pads or other dark objects have caused the ice to melt completely away leaving open water in one place , and 4" of ice 1 foot away.

I made my way around several dangerous areas and drilled several holes looking for some decent pan fish. I caught somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 fish or so in 4 hours. No crappies just sunnies, with only 3 over 7"..It sure is fun to be out but I wish the fish would cooporate a bit better. Here is one of the gills I caught.

Using my Otter has helped catch some of my gills today…The bite was very very light and any wind would have blown my line and I would never been able to detect any bites at all.Orange Rockers, Purple Moon Glitters with either a spike or a waxie did the job today.

I’m off to parts unkonwn tomorrow. I hope to have better reports in the up coming days.

Be safe on the ice and have fun…
