Sherman Reservoir Nebraska Walleye Fishing Report

With all of the tournament fishing I have been doing lately, some time out on the water with the family was well overdue. I called Kelli up yesterday afternoon and told her to get ready ‘cus we were going up to Sherman for a family evening out on the water and what an evening it was!! Kelli outdid 2 or her PR’s and Ryder was quite the little man on the boat. I really enjoy tournament fishing but the time that I get to spend out on the water with Kelli and Ryder is priceless!!

We started out the evening in a weed patch in trail #5 w/bobbers and minnows. Kelli was the first to get on the board with a very nice 14" crappie, a PR for her. It was so much fun seeing her land such a nice crappie, though I couldn’t get her to hold it for a picture, especially with Ryder in the boat with us. We caught a few more fish in that spot but we decided to move on to greener pastures.

We headed up into Trail #8 see if we could find a few more crappie but we didn’t have much luck. We decided to put the bobbers away and change over to lindy-rigging some ‘eyes. We settled on a favorite bank of mine, pulling crawlers and leeched in 11’ of water, and we started picking up fish right away. These fish were very aggressive and most were around the 17" range and very healthy looking. Well, I was in the front of the boat on the trolling motor when I heard Kel’s drag take off. I didn’t think much of it ‘cus we where in some old weed growth and such. When I did finally turn around to see what was going on, she was fight’n the heck out of a fish. I got the net and headed back and then it surfaced. The first words out of my mouth were "Holy $#!*" to which Kelli replied "what is it?!". It ended up being a VERY nice 26" ‘eye, another PR for her. That was some of the most fun I have had in some time!

We fished until sunset and for the 3 hours we were out there, Ryder did a great job in the boat. He really enjoys being out on the water and every other word out of his mouth is "boat". It’s important to get those youngsters out and experience the outdoors early so we have these same opportunities in the future. It is a little more work but WELL WORTH IT!! Sherman is a great lake to take a kid right now. It is easy to find the fish and they are easy to catch right now. Just take some crawlers and leeches, find a flat and fish away. Good Luck!!

I want to fish as a pro and work for an outdoor company when I grow up. Right now I want to fish and write as much as I can.

  1. Great report Zach and congrats to Kelli for her new PRs. If the winds stay as forecasted, I’m planning on taking my wife and two little kids out tomorrow. I hope we have as much luck as you did!

  2. The last pic of you and Ryder is PRICELESS!!!!

Congrats Kelli on the PB! Ummmm….I gotta ask….What is with the glove????

Best not let BK see that.

Although I think BK uses gloves on walleyes too…

    Great report!!!!

Kel WILL NOT touch fish so it was all that I could do to get her to pose for the picture that I got. That’s the reason for the glove

  4. Now that’s what fishing is all about! Building memories with the family that will last a lifetime! Congratulations Kelli on your PB’s!

  5. Great report and love to see the whole family out there. Hoping to get all mine in the boat for Dad’s day!!

  7. Great report Zach! I sure wish I had time to fit a trip to Sherman in. I might make it up for the Trade Winds tourney. We’ll have to see how things go.

That little guy sure is getting big!

It appears you have the new ride working well for you Zach. What a great family outing !

I expected a LOT out of this Tuffy and it has exceeded ALL of my expectations. Kelli has even made several comments on how smooth the boat is and how we are able to stay so dry when other are not so lucky. It’s also really easy to take Ryder out because of all the room for him to move around and still be safe. The boat is amazing and I am still trying to get totally used to it

I hope to see you at the Trade Winds Tournament Ben. I sure like the bite that time of year
