Chain of Lakes, Cold Spring, MN

After 2 days of fishing in rain, cold, and wind on the opener on Mille Lacs. (Can’t complain about the actual fish bite) it was there. I got back home and had a little project to take care of on my motor. I got that out of the way early afternoon today then hooked up the rig and drove the 10 miles to the Cold Spring Lions park landing. I decided to start on some pretty well known spots on the edges and through channels. I started dragging a short lindy tipped with a leech in 5-8 fow using the trolling motor to stay on a slow move. I hooked up with the 16" pictured. I was on my own, so the pictures where limited.

One thing worth mentioning is the water clarity on the chain is much better than usual with the water level up a bit. I did notice this earlier in the year while doing some panfishing. It seems to me it improved a bit more since then. I would have thought the opposite with the rain amounts in the area. A good sign for the lake. Back to the fishing.

I rigged four different spots and found results the same. Walleyes in the 14-16" range in 5-8 fow water near or in the channels. There where quite a few other boats that joined me in those locations at about 5:00pm. I never did change presentation or look for any bigger fish in different depths or structure. I was having to good a time catching and releasing. All fish where put back for tomorrow.

Good fishing to ya!
